"I think I will always be a Packer..."

Did you see Bret Farve's news conference this evening? For just being named the Jets new quarterback, he sure didn't have that radiant smile holding up his new jersey that other players have had in the same situation. He also seemed to dwell a lot on his former team almost as much as he did for his new team. It appeared to me he wanted to play football, and was glad to be going to a team, but a big chunk of him was still in Green Bay. He was like a kid opening up a Christmas present and being reserved in disappointed that he didn't get what he really wanted.

I will be following the Jets this year.

I think his PR was as best as could be expected. Yes, I would have loved to have him stay a Packer.. but I think he left with dignity. Some think it was him some think it was the management's fault.
I'll always be a #4 fan.

DA, I respectfully disagree. I think he sacrificed his dignity, good name, and good standing in Wisconsin, all for what I believe will be a mediocre season.

What would you do if you were him?
You want to play ball. They want you to take a back seat.

I don't like that people are trying to make him out to be the bad guy. The Packers had their chance.

I am not much into sports, but I loved watching HIM play.
He still has the passion to play that he always has had.

He didn't slam the Packers or anyone. Just let me play..
That, to me is no loss of dignity.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors. They only release what they want the public to know.
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I think he did.

I really think that the first time he gets nailed and has a hard time getting up, he will have another news conference and call it quits. Even if he makes it through the season, play-offs or not, this will be he last. He will come to the realization that this game is not for 39 year old men. Sorry Bret, George Blanda's record is one you won't be able to break.

I'm waiting for someone to do a "Leave Brett Alone" video.. like the Brittany Spears one.. LOL

***I was referring to Blands's age record: He was 48 when he quit. Farve already broke his passes thrown and intercepted record at 277

Like I said.. I'm not that much into sports. I'm sure I've heard of George Blanda, but ... it didn't matter to me.

Guess I will leave this particular blog to people who know sports.

I'm just a fan of Brett.

Only as good as the team that protects you. The Jets Line isn't going to protect him and he's going to be a target. He is going to be sacked hard. Pummeled. Roughed up and injured. He will not even make it through the entire season and will finish on the injured reserve.

Getting traded to the Jets is a death song. Even if he was young and in his prime, able to heal fast each week, the Jets are not good enough to use any of his talents.

Instead of retiring and keeping a modicum of health and able to enjoy his retirement, he will be injured in a bad enough way that his retirement years are going to be filled with hobbling pain. If he was smart, he'd run away and accept his lot.

The Jets did a lot to improve their Offensive Line over the off season - I think they added three new offensive linemen during the draft.

I am not saying this is the answer to all the issues but it should help protect Favre a lot better then previous Jets' quarterbacks last season.

I'm not claiming "I told you so" but I wasn't convinced Farve was glad to be going to the NY Jets. An article in the Watertown paper (http://www.wdtimes.com/articles/2008/08/07/news/news1.txt) quotes the pilot hearing Brett on the plane saying he wasn't interested in being a Jet. Yea it's a he said she said, but seeing the news conference, to me it has some credibiltiy.
