What happened to Halloween?

I had less than 20 kids come to my door. Mostly tots with parents. My block with about 22 homes (has culdesac in middle) had about six, just six houses with porch lights on. Here I sit with $.75 size bags of M&M peanuts. Sam's had a sale and I bought a 48 count box thinking they'd evaporate. You know, big treats for kids, tiny treats for thugs. Not a single kid over 12, and only two of those. Now I'm stuck with mini Snickers too. Bah, they worry about Xmas, and All Hallows Eve gets shoved aside.

We live in a different world than when we were kids. I used to love Halloween. I think the economy plays into this. I think people just got fed up with the teenage mothers with the babies on their hips, the thugs, the minivan drop off of non-neighborhood kids. People have way more fear now too. We've taught our kids to be wary of strangers and now we follow suit.

KK is right. And now they don't carry a bag, they carry a pillow case...ya like they'll really fill one of those.

It is so big down here....normally, we see very few kids out, but last night yikes. As I drove down my street, I saw a Sumo Wrestler (is that spelled right...oh who cares), a Nun, fairies galore, and a lot of old fashioned costumes. You know like your Mom and my Mom made for us, not store-bought junk.

I crossed the bridge to Punta Gorda (Florida, this is) and there were huge numbers of families walking down the street, (one family was dressed as a swarm of bees...too funny). Cops all over. Arrived at Sparrows Lounge and the bartender had on a red suit with a pumpkin head...he had to be roasting like a pig in there.

I think you guys shipped all your kids down here and some of your adults as well!

I have never had a single kid since moving here and last night was no different. I saw two families when I went out last night, but not near my place. Very light here.

very few kids seen around by us too, the main groups were driven in, they come in vans, park in the cul du sac's and swarm around. Too many teenagers, I was surprised.

Huck, Snickers make an awesome apple salad, cut up a bunch, dice up a couple apples and stir in cool whip to hole it all together, easy good stuff :)

We had at most 15 kids here. I was very impressed as all but one (van in the street) had parents with them. It was fun looking how all of them dressed up. Cute.
I agree with KK, it is a different world. We were at the in-laws today and my sister-in-law said the churches were packed with halloween kids. If I had little ones, that is where I would go.
Anyone want any Snickers, Reeses, Milky Way or Baby Ruth bars?

My son decided that he didn't want to go trick or treating this year. I guess that's OK with me,besides he's getting to be about that age.

I live in an apartment complex where we have security doors. It's very difficult to past these doors unless you have a key. I didn't even bother to hand out candy. Kinda sucks though.I enjoy handing out candy.

My parents live at the end of a small dead end street. It's been less and less kids that come by every year. There was one year they brought a lawn chair up to the end of the street and sat there to hand out candy. I dont think they even bothered this year. No one else hands out candy on the street (there are only 4 houses) so kids dont think it's worth walking down there.

I had grown adults with 2 and 3 bags in their hands looking for had-outs.(sorry, I dont do homeless!!) I wanted to give them left over Chineese fortune cookies or coupons for oil changes instead of candy. I too had some pretty creative kids come through with some excellent costumes on. ( One kid was SO convincing as an old man I couldnt help but go get my camera and take his pic.) Lots and lots of older kids (thugs and teenage moms too!!!). I like the little ones (2-8) they are fun and I enjoy giving treats out to them!
