"For Ireland's Catholic Schools, a 2,600-Page Catalog of Horrors "

From Time magazine:
"[James] Quinn was one of over 2,000 people to give evidence in a nine-year inquiry into child abuse at educational institutions, orphanages and hospitals run by Roman Catholic religious orders in Ireland from the 1930s to the 1990s. On Wednesday, the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse released its findings. The five-volume, 2,600-page report is a catalog of horrors, describing 'endemic sexual abuse' in boys' institutions and the 'daily terror' of physical abuse experienced by the estimated 30,000 Irish children who were sent to them."

From the Associated Press:
"But the victims, now mostly in their 50s to 80s, said Wednesday's 2,600-page report, despite its unprecedented scope and detail, did not make public what matters most — the names of their abusers. That's because a religious order at the heart of the abuse charges — the Christian Brothers — successfully sued the investigators to keep the identities of all their abusive members secret."

I am not trying to raise a ruckus here, and I don't expect anyone to comment, but I will not let this die, either. If you're inclined, check out the above links to read about the absolute torture inflicted daily upon over 30,000 children by the loving religious orders of the Catholic Church. And STILL they refuse to name the monsters.

What would Jesus do?

First, I suspect, He would throw up . . .

Am I the only one who finds it unusual that the catholic church seems to be the only one plagued by this? Why do we not hear this from other religions? Also, there is scarce information presented about young girls who were molested or seduced?

KK, I also have wondered about the same thing. To me the only reasons I can come up with is the power and size of the Catholic Church and not allowing their priests to marry. I believe the marriage part is the largest factor.

Religion has been about the control of people for a long time. The Catholic religion has been the best at it for ages. Why else would they make sure that they were in place as your link to the salvation of your god? Saw this yesterday and have been waiting for you to post.

I betcha this stuff has been going on for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Aren't Catholics the only ones with religious orders? Things can get pretty twisted when someone or thing controls every aspect of your life. (Look at cults or prisons.) It has taken me decades to see the Protestant Reformation in a new light. (As a child in a Catholic school, I used to sit in class and think about the kids in the Lutheran school on the same block as ours and wonder why God was damning them to hell?)

I think it is because of the size and importance of the Catholic Church. We all know that any profession that has access to young children is bound to have some pedophiles hiding among their numbers. But the large number of clergy in the catholic church exceeds the numbers in these other professions. The high expectations of people that a Priest or Minister should be above reproach, right? I am in no way condoning the response of the catholic church to this horrid situation.

Just remember these creeps are all over and we need to know the coaches, teachers, ministers, youth leaders, etc who come in contact with our kids. We should show up unannounced. Children are our greatest resource, we need to protect them.

Many of you know, I do NOT have children of my own. I have a number of nieces, nephews, g-nieces, g-nephews and I think I would consider drastic steps if anyone touched any one of them!

That is something I have been surprised to not see. Reprisals. I keep expecting to read about someone gunning down the culprits and it never happens. Instead the abused keep hoping their god will strike down the perps. Here is something to think about. I wonder how many atheists wear Priest frocks? They obviously can't be worried about damnation.

The most likely truth is that the other religions have been able, because they are smaller, to cover it up better.
