After a lovely three day weekend I was moving a little slow this morning. That is, until I heard this.
Thanks for a nice wake up call.

Huck: My God. Just to hear the WORD Wurlitzer brings back GREAT memories. "Leslies goin round" What music we had in the 60s and 70s. I was a bartender at a place called Counselors II on Lake Ave. in 1970 and the BEST bands ALL had Wurlitzer's WITH Leslie's. Lots of horns, LOT'S of energy. It was the Best time of my life. I will NEVER forget the BEST band "Seven Card Stud" Talented beyond belief.

kk, it's Junior Walker & the All-Stars doing "Shotgun," a great blast from the past.

Poor kk can't see YouTube at work.
:(

Toad, I remember Counselors II. I never went there, but I remember it being there.

Oh yeah Toad, I remember that place. Trying toi remember the name of the place on Douglas south of three mile... Had a nice set up with two levels and you could watch the bands from practically everywhere. Knew the Bouncers well, knew a band named Burst and we partied quite a bit with them. They had a bass player that played fretless base. He was outstanding. The keyboardist wore spandex and a bit of makeup. Wayyyyy before his time.

Huck:

The only places I remember south of 3-mile were "The Beacon" Kinda across the street for the "Pig" and The Lighthouse. Corner of Hamilton and Douglas. Remember "Lee's Charcoal" and "The Panther Club" Lee's Charcoal was the LAST place I remember with on the counter Juke Box selectors. I know you don't remember "The Pussycat Lounge"

Toad,

Don’t forget about the Nitty Gritty, The Sound, Ivanhoe, The Cellar, Blue Goose, Hullabaloo...oh shit I am old....

SECRETS! That's the place. And they had Secrets South that ended becoming the Vintage Rock Cafe.

SER: Nitty Gritty I remember but, never went there. Hullabaloo I am not certain about. Was it attached to North Side Paradise Lanes? The Ivanhoe was vacant for most of my life. I think those from about 1967 have control of that one. I spent most of my time in Kenosha at Shakey's or the Brat Stop. I often wonder how in hell I ever made it home sometimes?

BTW. Were not old. Were REALLY old. A good friend of mine up here (accidental) always ask "how in hell did we get this old?)

I remember the Nitty Gritty.

And the Kenosha county 18 yr old beer bars. Of course, everyone had a fake ID. I, too, am surprised that not more carnage occurred on Hwys 50 and 31 back then. And then, right about the time we turned 21, they lowered the drinking age to 18 (it was pushed back up later).

Toad...Hullabaloo...where Garbo Motors showroom is on Douglas Ave, it was across the street from there, actually it’s part of Garbo’s used cars now.

Bluegoose was where the Honda dealer is now on 20th and Lathrop Ave.

The city counsel bitch and bitched about the dance clubs for kids and finally got them all close. They were asshole back then also.

I use to go to Shakey’s at least 6 days a week! I use to hit them all, Shakey’s, Brat Stop, Earl’s, The Pit, Chaparral, Chaparral was cool, you could buy quarts of beer there. Don’t want to forget about the Klondike Club either.

Orbs, I was 23 when they changed the law to 18.

I gotta tell you a funny story, when they passed the law, I went into a bar, which will remain unnamed. I had to pee, walked into the bathroom and there were 4 young guys pooling their money to buy one more drink. Well I could not get to the urinal, so I said to one of them, “The reason I love going to the bathroom, it gives me a real reason to hold myself”! Holy shit, less then 2 seconds, I had the whole place to myself!
