"State budget could affect homeowners, drivers, phone users"

"Madison – The state budget the Legislature takes up this week would change your life, have the potential to change it or cost you more.

"You would have to buy more car insurance coverage, raising your premiums. Police could stop your car if they think you haven't buckled your seat belt. The state tax on a pack of cigarettes would rise 75 cents, to $2.52. There would be a new 75-cent monthly charge on each phone line. And you'd get less of an income tax break on capital gains profits.

"It also authorizes a 1% local sales tax in Milwaukee County for a new regional transit authority, which would subsidize the county bus system and cost the average household $228 a year, according to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau."

This abortion was finalized literally in the middle of the night. Earmarks, pork, special favors for special interests, all the usual goodies for all the usual pigs packed into a budget that screws working people harder than ever before.

I will buy more insurance to cover my driving, but not the three different people who hit my truck over the past year, none of them with insurance. One of them didn't even have a license, two of them couldn't speak English, and the third was a hit and run. In Wisconsin, those who abide by the law get punished, and those who do not abide by the law get off scot-free.

Cory Mason stuck in a provision that would force us to pay to transport pregnant students to school if they live within two miles of a school building. We pay to support them. We pay for their babies. We pay to raise the babies and try to teach them. We pay for their court and "rehabilitation" costs when they're caught committing crimes. We pay the policing, medical, and insurance costs associated with those crimes. Then we pay to house them in prisons in perpetuity. And now we will provide limousine service. Damn, I wish I could get pregnant and use my baby to extort money from working people, and then do it again, and again, and again . . .

Welcome to the new world order, where right is wrong and wrong is right. Party on!

Somehow people easily forget the vast amount of corporate welfare and fixate on the poor. Hundreds of millions for each, totaling to hundreds of billions to a very few every year, and a few billion to millions. I guess we have our scape goats. Party On.

Talk about not taxing the lower income people! Give me a break. Like I said in Italy they taxed water and matches because no one would pay their taxes and these items everyone used. Maybe I should email this to Doyle so he can come up with new ways to 'get' us.

Are they stupid? If they charge more for insurance then we would cancel what we have. I don't care. I have nothing to be sued for. As for smokes I go to Illinois once a week so I don't pay those taxes here. Doesn't anyone in government have a brain as to how the average Joe lives?

The increase in insurance minimums is nothing but political payback to the trial lawyers. doyle in his stupidity proposes raise the minimum in auto liability insurance in a state THAT HAS NO REQUIREMENT TO HAVE AUTO LIABILITY INSURANCE!!! Proof of financial responsibility is a measure after the fact. Another sloppy wet kiss on the ass of the lawyers by doyle is the revision of Wisconsin's liability laws. In the past if you were found at any percentage contributory in negligence, even though the other party had a higher percentage of negligence, you were still held accountable for that percentage you caused. The "Shared" liability proposal by our clueless governor is know as the "1%" liability. If a party is found to 49% contributory in negligence in an accident, but you happen to be 51%, you get nailed for 100% of the fault. In other words, you pay for the other party's negligence. Here's an example: You pull out from a stop sign in the path on an on coming car. After investigating the accident, the cop gives you a citation for failure to yield right of way. The investigation also reveals that the other party was traveling at excessive speed, so that one is issued a citation for imprudent speed. But since the other party had right of way, even though they were speeding, you are considered 100% at fault. Even though had the other party would have been doing the speed limit, no accident would have occurred. So much for the premise of contributory negligence in Wisconsin! Thanks a heap diamond jim!

It's not "the Poor" that bother us, Huck. It's the deadbeats that game the system every chance they get.

There is no incentive to follow the law when there is no or minimal punishment for not following the law.

It happens in the school system too. No penalties for truancy, or bad behavior. Instead, we put them in special classes that they don't need to work at, say they have special needs, coddle them, then give them a diploma. One way to make it look like the schools aren't failing, and that is more important, I guess. It demeans the hard work done by decent students.

I am disgusted every day when I see some of these kids try to write a sentence. Just how can you graduate with a diploma if you can't read and write?

AA hit it on the head... It is the scam that bothers people.

It’s really sad, we have people in prison for doing drugs a non-violent crime, and this asshole is the Governor raping everyone!

The scam. Maybe that is why it bothers me so much that companies milk the system, get great tax rates, pay the help crap wages and spend huge amounts for the very few at the top.

I've been called a socialist for wanting to hold these scum to some standards. I don't want to deny someone the fruit of their labors, I want the obscene profit taking to end.

Maybe I am a Socialist though. I remember working at a small Union Tool Room of huge multi-national company. It was contract time and we were voting on the Company's offer. Don't let the term Union bother you. It was a large company and a very small workforce compared overall. Anyway we were all more or less comfortable and had our houses and toys and no one was hurting. No one except one guy.

Our Sweeper was a little slow thinking, but a friendly enough guy. As non-skilled his pay was very low. He was an older guy with a family. You know, wife, kids, too small of a house, beater car, etc. His raise was laughable. At the meeting I asked if we could all give up one cent of our raises so that his pay might be more livable. Thirty-Five people transferring a penny each would have made this guys life more livable. You would have thought I'd asked them all to drink poison Kool-aide. Sorry Tom, the fifty cents a week (with overtime) from each of us will kill us.

Yes, I guess I'm a socialist. I feel too strongly for the little guy, while hold the top elite in contempt. Don't kid yourself. It isn't hard work that gets most of these scum to the top. It also isn't most of the poor running scams. Nope, but our actions hurt the non scammers and reward the scum at the top. Look at AIG as an example there.

I've said many times that working people are squeezed by pigs at the top and thugs at the bottom. I have nothing against poor people. I consider myself one of them. 14 year old vehicle, all of my clothes come from secondhand stores, I haven't eaten out in years, etc. No, I'm not starving, but then again, how many people in Racine actually are, hmmm? I'm just tired of busting my ass to make ends meet legally while scammers get a free pass over and over and over again.

We keep lowering our standards in an effort to raise those of the scammers, but it doesn't work. Our society has been dumbed down to the level of animal civilizations, but it still isn't ignornant enough for some.

Given the financial mess, I'm seriously considering a partial return to my old ways. When I was drinking and drugging, I scammed and cheated my way through life. (Notably, I achieved my greatest financial success career-wise when I scammed the most.) I am giving very serious thought to doing that again, only sober this time. Why should I keep following "the rules" and getting kicked in the teeth while scammers thrive? What good are intelligence and resourcefulness when others are allowed to take and take and take from you? I see less and less reason to obey the law with each passing day . . .

The reason you don't do it is because you have a soul.... you can see the wrong in it. I don't know how those who scam live with themselves. I agree though, it is getting harder and harder to do what is right when there is no incentive.
