Milwaukee Mayor attacked after leaving State Fair

"Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was recovering Sunday morning after beating beaten with a pipe after leaving the Wisconsin State Fair with his family Saturday night.

"The mayor is said to be in good condition this morning.

"The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. in the 8800 block of W. Orchard St. in West Allis, according to a joint statement from the West Allis police and Milwaukee police.

"Barrett and his family were returning to their car when they saw an altercation and heard a woman shouting that someone should call 911. Barrett began calling 911 when the suspect who had been attacking the woman, ran toward Barrett and began striking him with a metal pipe.

"The suspect then fled the scene. Police are still searching for the man, who police said had a criminal arrest record."

Did he identify himself by name? Does Barrett personally know this guy? How is it that police know enough to make a statement like that? Shouldn't that question be addressed before printing such a remark?

Makes you wonder how they find some criminals and others are never found. Makes you wonder if this happened to you, would justice be as swift?

fyi, orbs, the link wasn't working. I fixed it. Hope this is your original article.

Thanks for the fix, kk. I should check my links after posting.

I assume that the woman who hollered for help knew who the attacker was. I doubt that the guy knew it was the mayor - he probably just went after whoever he saw dialing a phone.

So, now that he's been beat do you think he'll start acting at least a little bit more conservative?

Add this to the fact that the left runs right in order to get elected, his hope to be Governor someday and the fact that Doyle isn't running for re-election and there may be as much hope for crime fighting in Milwaukee as there was when Clark became Sheriff. Will be interesting....

I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
