Enzyte Bob

I was up into the wee hours of the morning again last night and a commercial for the "manhood" enhancer Enzyte came on the tube. The guy who is smiling due to his newly "enhanced" parts is named Bob.... hmmm.

Then it struck me. It looked somewhat familiar to me. Anyone else seeing it?

Yes, indeedy... none other than Bob Dobbs, that LIVING GOD WHO WALKS THIS PLANET EARTH IN HUCKSTER'S SHOES.

And I'm
not the only one who sees it. Upon trolling around the internet, I found several quotes from others who feel the similarities are eerie.

#1: "Those commercials for Enzyte, are pretty obvious ripoffs of the Dobbs image."

#2."Have you noticed that Enzyte Bob shares a striking resemblance with another Bob, Mr. Bob Dobbs from the Church of the SubGenius™.

Both are pseudo-1950’s-styled white males with perma-smiles affixed to their faces. Both are hugely popular. Both are named Bob. Both allegedly have huge [equipment]. You never see both Bobs in the same place at the same time.

Coincidence? You decide." (http://trainque.com/blog/2004/06/16/enzyte-church-of-the-subgenius/)

#3. "This is Bob. Bob's company is being investigated for fraud. Good thing Bob sent away for his free sample of Enzyte! When he goes to prison, he'll be very popular!"(http://www.fark.com/cgi/comments.pl?IDLink=1406299&hl=Bob-loses-reason-to-smile-as-feds-raid-Enzyte-headquarters)

Come to think about it... Seems to me that Orbs is always smiling at the get togethers... Brrrrhhaw. Now I guess that notion will make for another sleepless night!

Poor Bob... Sorry Orbs. I'm sure there is no connection at all!

I guess the only thing left to do is to whip out the ol' wanker so the truth can be seen.

At that time of night, you have two choices in commercials: Enzyte or Girls Gone Wild videos... where I was worried I might catch a glimpse of Ms. Beejay! ;>

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Enzyte

What I want to know is has anyone noticed the similarity between "Smilin' Bob" and J. R. "Bob" Dobbs, the figurehead of the Church of the SubGenius. I can only imagine this was, on some level, intentional, the resemblance is so striking. And then there's the name. But there's no mention of the Enzyte ads in the articles on J. R. "Bob" Dobbs or the Church of the SubGenius, nor is there any mention of J. R. "Bob" Dobbs in the article on Enzyte. BassBaritone 05:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

The SubGenius Foundation is, in fact, ticked off at the way Enzyte obviously stole the image of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs for their mascot. But because Enzyte is only calling him Bob and not "J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs," and because they image is not an exact duplicate of "Bob" (he doesn't smoke a pipe), there's enough difference to prevent copyright infringement. Barely. However, Enzyte's problems have been a source of great amusement and laffs for members of the Church. As has happened many times in the past (remember Microsoft Bob?), "Bob" is outlasting his competition once again. --Modemac 21:22, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm quite the antithesis of Bob in the Enzyte commercials. In more ways than one. ;)

As for "J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs," I am unworthy of comparison.

I like the ExtenZe commercial where the woman says, "Could we afford to do this [give a free sample], if what we say isn't true?"
