Could you live without your cell phone?

I posted this on Facebook, but here it is for you guys:

Could you live without your cell phone...would you absolutely go nuts without it or would you find it a relief not to be bothered?

I have a smartphone (although I really don't think I need one and I don't think it's that smart). I personally think I could really do without all the gadgets...do I need to check my email constantly, nope. Do I, yep...

And, yes, all my numbers in the world are in there; if I lose it...oh-oh....but then maybe all those people will call me on my land-line...maybe.....or email me and I would pick up those messages on my PC...

I put my shopping list on it...I put all my appts on it...all sorts of things that could be handled with a calendar and scratch pad....

So how about you?

I would be lost without my phone. I can get by for a few hours or even a day. One of the reasons being the people I know call me on my cell phone not my home phone; and I never answer my home phone. It has an answering machine on it and if it is important, you can leave a message.

Phone numbers is the killer for me, with my cell phone I do not have to remember any, which is bad, I do not even know my kids phone numbers, they are on speed dial!

I do not have a fancy phone, I have a Razor V3 XX and it is about obsolete. I bought a neat program for my computer from Motorola, which I can plug my phone into the computer and synchronize them, so I do have a back up of all my numbers. It also synchronizes Outlook to my phone so I have appointments or reminders come up.

As for the rest, read email or connect to the net, I can connect to the net but it is sloooooow and a waste of time.

My monthly bill is fairly cheap, $38.00. As for my home phone I have been considering getting rid of it and get one of those Magic Jacks, what the hell, my computer is on full time anyhow.

i still can't imagine living WITH a cell phone... and though i am quite attached to my computer it's not the kind of thing i really wanna carry around like an oxygen tank...

it was a very sad day when i went to barnes & noble a while ago to buy a new address book & they only had 2 to choose from instead of 30 - nobody writes anything down anymore.

and i thought my grandmas went through a lot of changes...

I have one, a free one from Safelink, so I can get assistance if anything happens to me. I don't even know the phone number of it so when asked I say I only have one phone at home. That number I know. I do not know how to use it and have a hard time wanting to use it...maybe except for 911. Well the other day I had an emergency and needed it (not quite an emergency) so I thought I would get the directions I downloaded on my computer. Ha the computer was down too so there I sat thinking a lot of good this phone is doing me. Finally I printed the directions all 130 pages of it and found out you put the number in FIRST then press the 'green' phone. I made my one and only phone call. Now it's good for go to dial 911. I do think I would like to call a restaurant while driving to order something and have it ready when I get there but I would have to pull over and park to look up the nukber in the phone book I always carry in my car then dial. I don't know but it seems like a lot of bother to me. We'll leave it so far to that one number I called (my son) who by the way didn't answer. It scertainly is a major item for everyone nowadays. Kinda like in the old days you just had to have a microwave. BTW I cannot live without my microwave now.

I don't have one. I don't want to be that connected to anybody. I already hate it when my home phone rings - I don't want that damn thing jingling in my pocket all the time.

Here is what I posted: "I COULD live without it. I hate cell phones. When I leave the house, I WANT to be unreachable. Don't phone me. E-mail me, I'll get back to you."

I do have one for emergency purposes. It is usually off or crabbing at me due to needing a charge.

Seeing all SER had to write, maybe he is a little TOO attached? <3

Let's wait for DA to report in...LOL

Thing is, Beejay, I do have all of my phone numbers and appointments, etc., on my computer. When it crashed last year, I lost all of that.

Orbs,I keep my hotmail calendar up to date with my appts for the most part...and frightening as it seems,
I also use an old-fashioned calendar. LOL...

What I do use is the phone directory...

I don't really text other than to DA!!!! The only other person who texts me is a niece in GA. That is rare, but she does occasionally.

The shopping list part is sort of handy though...LOL!

My cell phone is pretty much my life line to the world. It's got all of my contacts in it. Like SER, I can't remember numbers for sh*t. They are all on speed dial.

I don't do much with my phone, except give and receive phone calls. I'll do occasional texting..

The phone I got, is an old Nokia that six years old. Can't even take pictures with it. Been on the same plan and same number all that time.

I repeat.. DEF NO!

It's my only phone, no land line. I use it for music, news, texting (more than talking) games and taking pictures and videos.

I <3 my phone! :)

Heck, I would be lost at meetings without it...following twitter feeds and getting texts is the way meetups happen and everyone knows the best science collaborations begin over a beer. I need to know where those beers are being had!

I use the GPS to call up restaurants, transit stops, etc. I am in an airport right now and perused all the restaurants in all the terminals before I decided where to go.

I have no home phone, like SER. I am not lost without it...I can cope with being unreachable if I leave it at home for a day, but I use mine more like a computer annex than a phone.

I just spent AGES writing a comment on compassion, and discovered I was In the wrong place. That is why the comment was deleted.

As for CELL phones. I HATE mine, but because It's the only phone we have now (got rid of expensive land line) I am stuck with It. Otherwise I hate them. I was having my eyes examined at the eye glass store yesterday, and the damn thing rang. VERY irritating.

There is no way I could be without mine. I am addicted to my Blackberry. I have my work, home and Sturtevant email on it. All my contacts, calendars, notes, plus google maps, twitter, weather, texting my daughter, shopping lists, etc. It's the first thing I check in the morning and the second to last thing @ night. (Kissing my wife goodnight is the last. I now understand how it is not a phone, it's an electronic life partner. So Im a crackberry addict.

Stu, I have not become a crackberry addict yet and I don't plan to...I think I'm going to try using it less and checking my e-mail less. It's okay to store all my numbers there, but the rest is easily done on my PC...
