Schlager

Seeming I brought up schlager in my last post I thought I would give an example.. I really only need to give one example as they are all built up pretty much the same. This is an artist named Carola and she is Sweden's sweetheart. She has been in the limelight since she was very young this was from a few years ago in the Eurovision Song contest, a contest that most countries in Europe send in one song that best represents their country and they compete against each other (a kind of musical Olympics), the country that wins gets the honor of hosting the event the next year. Anyways out of about 32 songs that the Swedes could choose from this is what was sent..

But alas Sweden didn't win that year this is what won: From Finland I give you Lordi

Why Not? 31 seconds in on the winner I had to turn it off. ISN'T it amazing the taste of the world today? An example would also be the 17 year old girl on American Idol that sang "music too OLD for her"? I don't get it? Something is terribly wrong.

yeah, the winning song was a bit.. uhhh special to say the least.. didn't quite understand how it won other than it was different. The eurovision song contest is usually built up of songs basically like the Swedish song. I think people got tired of hearing the same song over and over again so when a new song came along it won, even when it's as "special" as it was.

Hehehehe, I lasted 55 seconds on the loser, just not my style. Then again, I only made it 25 seconds in on the winner... I agree, why not, "different" and "special" are good descriptive words.

Well, I lasted 1:21 on the top video. Reminds me too much of the American Idol crap.

On the Finnish band, Lordi-they're OK. I could of done without the outlandish costumes. I've seen too much of it in bands like Slipnot!, G.W.A.R., and KISS. (Rolls eyes)

When I started watching the second video, I figured you were joking, Why Not.

As for the first one, I definitely heard and saw ABBA-ish touches.

I guess thats the point Orbs, you still hear ABBA in this Swedish music.. They have a hard time letting go of things that have worked in the past.. For you who had to stop watching Lordi, you missed the best part when the wings come out on the singer and the fireworks start..

As for the first singer. What if she used an American Producer? I suspect she would be a superstar.

As for the second group, even in the 60s and 70s when WE OLDIES had OUR crazy music, It was NEVER as bad or over the top like these guy's.
