The Big Snow Blog

National Weather Service Blizzard Watch - http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=mkx&wwa=blizzard%20watch - "NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS COULD BE A HISTORIC BLIZZARD CAPABLE OF PARALYZING PARTS OF SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN."

Are you ready?

Are you afraid?

Or are you eagerly awaiting it?

Then we're supposed to drop into the deep freeze again.

Personally, I hope they've overestimated the snowfall amounts.  But I'm resigned to whatever happens because it is winter in Wisconsin, so there's not a lot you can do but make sure you have enough food and whatever else you need  for a couple of days.  And try to think spring.

I haven't shoveled a flake yet and I'm already exhausted. I really don't like fighting the snow. Every year it gets more and more difficult. I'm ready to move somewhere more temperate. I'm hoping they are off on the prediction too. Could it please just go south of us?????

Get on the plane and get here...80 degrees tomorrow...Sunshine...I would even turn the heater on for the pool! What a better place to watch the Packers on Sunday?

PS I have beer!

We too are under a blizzard warning. I was looking forward to a day off tomorrow when it hit me. A blizzard means snow and snow means shoveling. I can handle that but we are going into a deep freeze with a nasty north wind. Agh!
But then again, one can hope that the strong wind will blow all the snow of the driveway. Oh wait, the driveway is where the 4' drifts were during the last blizzard. Sigh.

Beejay, I'm on my way; maybe only in spirit, but I'm there.

Super Bowl party at Beejay's house! Be there, or be square.

From what I understand, the Tues/Wed blizzard is supposed to be mostly lake effect snow (the storm is tracking south of us), so they really don't know how much to predict. One forecaster said the storm itself is worth 4 to 7 inches, the rest will be lake effect. Another blessing from lake M.

I just hate the way the news makes it like it's a big deal.....BUT maybe it is. I'm cancelling my Wednesday doctors appointment. I love storms as long as I have nothing to do.

I'm hoping for all of you that this is just another case of the weather guys over reacting!
The real big stuff is missing us here, just got about 5" so far, and it's been snowing all day.
Hope everyone stays warm safe and dry!
A little song to cheer you up. :)

BRING IT ON!!!!

Got a gas stove, so if the power goes out, turn on two burners and I'm toasty. No need for electricity in a pinch.

Got milk
got bread
got toilet paper
got all the vittles i need to keep me going.
GOT MY CAMERA WITH ALL BATTERIES RECHARGED

and the BEST part? A neighbor digs me out. That boy is getting a big buck gift card from a steak house for sure.

I'm digging it. I even have my laptop batteries charged. If I get snowed in, I'm good foe a week.

Not quite as warm as Florida, but the Gem & Mineral show is in full swing if you want to warm up in Tucson!

OrbsCorbs said...

DON'T BRING IT ON!!!!

Sis assures me she won't attempt to take mom anywhere if conditions are bad. We can always reschedule the lab work.

Dean and Frank. How cool.

Made it in to work this morning. Not much happening yet. Just a bit of snow and plenty of blowing when you get in an open stretch. But they say the worst is coming around 3pm. I'm hoping to home and not have to leave on Wednesday, if that is the case.

OKIE said...

Here is the OKC morning update. STAY HOME! We have heavy snow, with about 8 inches on the ground already. Hard to tell with the blizzard conditions. I can tell you my car is trapped by a large snow drift.
The worst part is the wind;it is blowing around 50 mph, the temp is 7 and the wind chill is below zero. They just did the "throw water out of a cup" demonstration and it froze immediately.
So heads up guys, this thing is headed your way. By the end of it, we should have around 14 inches. Brr.

Guys, be safe......

My mom is sitting in her apartment literally shaking. She lives in a senior independent living complex where all of her needs are met. There are caretakers and social workers on duty. I visit her every day. But because the damn talking heads on TV keep hyping and hyping this storm, she is terrified, and I don't think she even knows why. All she knows is that a major tragedy is headed our way and we're all doomed. Frickin' idiots yammering on TV over and over, the same shit, over and over, and all the frickin' idiots in the audience, repeating it over and over.

People at the store were fighting over milk. Dolts! It's going to snow for a day - they act like it's the end of the world.

I was so hoping to hear word that we won't be open tomorrow (especially since I am the opener...), no such luck yet...

The roads were notorious this morning on the way to work. Ya think they a plow out by 4 am? They weren't too shabby on the way home.

The good news that I don't have to work tomorrow. Now that's history for me!

Huck Finn said...

Got tons of vittles and what do I make for late lunch/Breakfast? SOS. Fighting for milk huh? Time to sell mine on a street corner for $20.

Not much happening yet. i was watching the radar, and the storm had a U shape with a prong to the south, and a prong ti the north. That's why we didn't get any snow until after everyone else. Looked out my door and it's coming down hard now. We get this for 12 hours? Snow mobile bank robbers in action. Perfect weather conditions for a clean getaway.

Sassa said...

Got to work just fine..roads were very nice. Left work at 3:14 went to the bank and it was CLOSED due to bad weather! It was nice out. Said they would open at 9 tomorrow. Ya right. Well nothing to do for a couple of days, guess I'll do my taxes ....oh and eat!!!

Beejay said...

Remember, I did invite you all down for a Super Bowl Party!!!!! That's all I'm saying.

Our power has briefly gone out three times already. Every time, it knocks out my router. I said screw it and finally hooked up this computer directly to the modem.

The oldest part of town has the oldest infrastructure. We'll freeze tomorrow night if there's no heat.

OrbsCorbs said...

Make that four. Uh-oh.

OrbsCorbs said...

Five. Seriously.

MinnesotaChick said...

Gosh, Orbs! I hope your power stays on.
Hope you all stay safe!

kkdither said...

Keep the power on, keep the big pine trees up near the house. There have been on and off moments where it is such a whiteout, I can't see the house across the street, only the lights coming from that direction.

Yes, it is Wisconsin. It will snow, and then it will stop. Fighting over milk is ludicrous. People can be such idiots.

The constant blather by the heads is what keeps people watching. It makes me sick when it plays on victims. There were times I had to make my sick mother turn off the television. She would get so worked up over the trumped up hour upon hour extended reporting of doom.

OrbsCorbs said...

It's been like eight now. I've lost track. I reported it to WE Energies. They have an automated system that allows you to choose power completely out or flickering lights. I reported the flickering but the automated system couldn't give an estimate of when it would be looked into. I imagine they're quite busy.

OKIE said...

Orbs, I sure hope your power stays on. It is so cold down here so I know it will be worse up there.
Stay safe.

OrbsCorbs said...

kk, I agree with you completely. I can barely stand to watch TV news, especially the local stuff. My mom can't crochet or read anymore - all she does is sit in front of the TV all day and listen to the idiocy.

The power's gone out a few more times. Each time, it seems to take longer to come back on. Well, I still have my clothes from my snow removal days, so I won't freeze. Charlie and I can huddle under the blankets.

OrbsCorbs said...

It just keeps happening, over and over. I've never seen it like this before.

I'm glad I have a battery back-up for the computer and monitor. They stay on when the power goes down (long enough to shut down all programs and turn it off for a complete failure). I just wait for the internet to reconnect itself.

There's already some good-sized drifts in the backyard.

Well, if you don't hear from me in awhile, you will probably read/hear about a power outage affecting the southeast part of town.

Huck Finn said...

I took a nap. When I woke at 9:40, I saw my clock flashing saying the power had gone out. Pushing the front storm door open, I see my ramp has 7" so far. Looking up the radar interactive map in motion, it looks like the system has stalled on top of us. If it keeps moving at it's throughout the day speed, it should pass us by 4am. Mt storm door had wet moisture on it through the day, but now its frozen solid.

The good about the snow is my house is warmer. I don't have a basement and until the snow banks against the house, wind pushes cold air under the house making the floor cold. Now that the crawl way is sealed, it isn't too bad.
