Racine Uncovered Hacked

Local blog site Racine Uncovered (http://racineuncovered.org/) was hacked last night according to a comment in our Monday open blog. Beth, who runs the site, prmosises prosecution to the fullest extent of the law if the perpetrators are caught.

Racine Uncovered covers the local crime scene, and covers it very well. The site has been a thorn in the side of the city of Racine's administration since its inception. Whenever our mayor opens his mouth to spew another lie, Racine Uncovered has been there to dispute it. Recently, the site endorsed Eric Marcus for mayor of Racine. I have little doubt that Beth's politics played a major role in this attack. Who would orchestrate an assault on a small, local, volunteer-run site that providies such a service to the citizens of Racine? I can think of no one other than our own lying John, the dirtiest piece of garbage to slime his way into City Hall in decades. This is filthy, lying, dirty politics - the kind that pigs wallow in.

Oink on, lying John!

5:30 PM - I've re-thought the situation and kk is right (see comments): I don't know for sure who hacked Racine Uncovered, so I shouldn't point fingers.

Keep on fighting the good fight Beth!

While I understand your anger and thought process... we do have to let the criminal justice process run its course. There could be others who acted for other reasons. I'm sure the crime rate doesn't reflect well on RPD, either. We really can't condemn any individual until it is proven.

Well, the Journal Times has an axe to grind with Racine Uncovered, too. RU had been pointing out the stories that the Journal Times steals from the site, so maybe they're involved. The Journal Times is just a mouthpiece for Dickert's campaign, anyway, so what's the difference?

Wow! and I tried to post a comment on JT open forum to ask what happened and they blocked it.

The Journal Times deletes or blocks anything they don't like. That is why this site started - we got tired of their censorship.

The Journal Times is run by out-of-towners for the benefit of out-of-towners, yet they presume to run our local elections for us. They trolled this site for weeks after we started. They are cowards and horses' asses. The upcoming mayoral election will be much more than a war of words. It's time for the people of this city to take it back from the carpetbaggers and lying John's cronies. We will destroy you with your own lies, liars.

The JT STILL trolls our website. I see their IP address all the time, especially when we get the scoop on something they deem newsworthy. The JT has "copied" from us, RU, Racine Post and the Racine News without mention of their source. They have no problem taking from others, yet they go as far as to threaten legal action against other websites who post in competition to them.

Liars usually lie because they get away with it. Once in a great while, justice prevails. Unfortunately, that is about all we can hope for... Good luck, RU. I hope you nab the culprit!

I did some hacking this morning...used 2 Kleenex boxes in the process.

People who do hacking and those who make up the viruses, when they are caught, they should have their fingers cut of with a garden snips. The type you use to trim your rose bushes then let them walk to the hospital.

Why do you think they were hacked? Last night things got weird with Road Runner. I lost all ability to link to other websites. At the same time, I was able to IM with a friend. When I did a reboot to see if that fixed the Internet, my AIM no longer worked either. This morning everything worked fine again.

I had trouble with Road Runner last night, too, a little after 1 AM. I finally gave up and went to bed.

From what I've read from comments, RU's site was completely unavailable this morning.

It was hacked, had nothing to do with Roadrunner, it is what's called a brute force attack it started at 11:30p.m. and the site was comprimised at 1:15 a.m. - It wasn't as simple as an internet service provider going down. I wish it had been

It seems odd that both orbs and i had problems after 1AM and the time RU went down was at that same time. What time was RU up again? I booted up at 10am and everything worked again. No idea when the server was fixed and working proper again.

Wow, I feel so empowered! You probably didn't have to cross out the oinking part, though. That might still be true. ;>

That's the old Orbs. I've turned over a new leaf for the new year. I'm the new, more diplomatic OrbsCorbs, working through affirmative sarcasm and positive irony to make this a better world.

Then I'll call you a pig.

she runs a wordpress site.
it's the most widely used blog software.

it's important to backup such things every week.

dont put a face on this and call it a 'hacker attack' and try to blame people in this city.

there are bots roaming the internet that perform attacks on sites every day, ALL day.

if you had a brute force attack AND you were broken into it is YOUR fault for using library words for passwords and not keeping wordpress up to date
