We're all agonna DIE!

God is turning the Sun off and Hale Bopp isn't warning us. It's why the Aztec calendar ends at 2012. Their Sun God hasn't been fed with the blood and beating hearts of the courageous and virgins. We need to do something QUICK.

I have a couple of nominees. After an adjustment they could be classified as virgins. Male and female.

I read about this last night. The last time it happened, it triggered "The Little Ice Age" on Earth.

If we're all screwed, how can anyone be a virgin?

Interesting story. Frank Hill works on the other end of the building (I observed with him during my first week here). I have seen lots of work on the jet stream as they call it the last few years. A couple of years ago, there was a story about its migration toward the equator was later than usual indicating that the current solar cycle would peak later than first thought.

That result comes from helioseismology. We can't see the Sun's jet stream directly but detect it through vibrations in the Sun's surface (a project appropriately called GONG, the Global Oscillation Network Group does that...although the name is cool, it is kind of a tortured acronym). This is similar to how seismologists on Earth use earthquake waves to study the Earth's interior. This is a fairly new discovery, but seems to be panning out. Don't know if the next cycle will be delayed or just even later than it should be.

Wouldn't panic too much...the solar output would likely decrease a fraction of a percent at worst...enough to slow global warming at best. I just hope people don't get careless and forget to monitor the Sun for a big solar storm that could cause all kinds of havoc with satellites, communications, electrical grids, etc.

So, if it works out, this will cancel out global warming, at least for awhile? Are humans lucky or what?
