From RacineUncovered.org:

"1:57 p.m. – Racine police are responding to calls for a shoplifter that ran from Shopko. Callers state that a white male stole Tide laundry detergent and put it under his coat. Was last seen leaving the area in a vehicle. License plate was obtained and dispatched.
2:00 p.m. – Dispatch is stating that there has been a party that has been selling Tide to people outside the Blue Kangaroo Laundry Mat on Durand.
2:02 p.m. – Police are searching for the suspect and radio reports that he has a history of DC and shoplifting.
2:06 p.m. – So far no offender found. (media reports that Tide seems to becoming more of an item that people like to steal and then resell)
2:09 p.m. – Police are investigating.
2:12 p.m.- So far it appears that the suspect has made a clean get away"

A little over week ago, I posted a blog about Tide thefts in the US: http://www.jtirregulars.com/2012/03/thieves-rolling-tide-detergent-out-of.html
I still don't believe that Tide has become a replacement for currency in the drug market. It's stupid. You can put $100,000 in cash in your pocket. Where would you put $100,000 worth of Tide?

I believe that a thief took a bottle of Tide from Shopko. He probably needed laundry detergent. Unless you can use Tide to make crack or meth or some other drug, though, I don't believe that it's drug related.

However, if you do know of a dealer who accepts laundry detergent as payment, please let me know if he/she accepts All detergent. I have the high powered stuff - 3X concentrate.

Commodities like this are going to have a great resale value (for cash) in the black market - and if you get away with the theft, it is almost impossible to prove -

Think about it - more and more cash strapped people looking to stretch their $$ - people are getting desperate - fuel/food or sundries. If you can save some $$ on sundries you have more $$ for fuel/food. Sellers and Buyers benefit. Stores pay. We'll see a ghetto store openly looted in Racine yet.

TP will be hot, soap, laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo, fragrances, toothpaste. Those little things that make life nice and clean.

How many times have we seen a fire burn a house in Racine and there are ten or more people living there.

Imagine your life without TP. It's becoming a reality for many in the hood. Times are going to get interesting indeed!

The drug cartels can use the Tide to launder their dirty money.

Orbs- Google tide theft and you will see how many states are having the same problem with the tide theft.

It is not used in the drugs they are trading tide for the drugs. The people that do not have the money for drugs will trade the tide for it.

This is really disturbing. There are a lot of people who are living by their wits, a lot of children living by their wits. There are more criminals than can be locked up. The shit is hitting the fan... and we dick around fighting behind political lines and parties about what to do about it. And don't even get me started about excess, greed and power.

We've begun starving the only thing that can save us: education and teaching the next generation personal accountability. Granted, public education is in more than a heap of trouble and needs fixing, but turning our backs will only make failure quicker and make the outcome for everyone worse.

One sad fact that I recently learned is that 40% of all consumable food is thrown away. We coexist in excess and in poverty while the media shovels us all kinds of trivial shit to keep us distracted. We've made enough 'rules' and laws to trap ourselves. Why can't we be smarter?
