Computer problems = insomnia. My OCD won't let me sleep until I fix it. Or break it so bad that I have to reinstall everything.

Happy weekend, everyone. Congrats to grads and love to moms.

Don't you just hate computers sometimes Orbs? We can go all day without it and be okay but the minute it starts giving us problems, panic sets in. Crazy. Hope everything works out.

My computer no longer reboots. If I press restart, it just does a soft shutdown. It's more a pain in the butt than anything, but I'm afraid it's indicative of deeper problems.

Microsoft had SIXTEEN security updates on Wednesday, and I renewed my antivirus subscription and I installed an updated version of utility software. Somewhere in all that, my computer lost the ability to reboot.

I suspect the Microsoft stuff and I hope they'll issue a patch soon. Meanwhile, I've been using the Recovery Console to mess with the computer's boot sector. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll have it totally inoperable in no time.

Can't you use the "go back in time" option? (system restore) I had to do that one time when an windows update wreaked havoc on my machine. I just went back to the day before the update took place. Seemed to at least temporarily fix the problem.

System restore. I'm way past that. When I screw it up, I screw it up good.

I'm done futzing around. (What a cool word: futz.)

I'll play with it another day, or it might fix itself.

Well, it is a good thing you have a backup. You do still have a back up?

They started as a luxury toy... but now? I can no longer even imagine being totally without computer access. Sometimes while I'm at work, I go through withdrawal symptoms.

I used to have a backup machine, but no more. Actually, this is the backup machine I'm on. The main one died. I believe the controller or something else on the motherboard gave out.

I haven't done a backup of this OS and files, but I keep telling myself that I will.

My computer at home is all messed up, won't even start up in windows, just a blue screen with a cursor. Can everyone say Geek Squad!
