Time Warner Cable Technician "Fix"

A Time Warner Cable technician "fixed" my internet connection this morning.  I subscribe to Road Runner Turbo, which means I should be receiving 20 Mbps or higher.  The test above shows my current speed at 0.90 Mbps.  And they have the gall to charge me money for this.  This problem has been occurring for years. Time Warner technicians apparently are incapable of solving it.

Now I have to wait till Friday for another "technician" to visit me.  That will make it a week of shit internet.  This has happened to me a dozen times or more.  I have no idea of how many internet hours I've lost to incompetence by TWC.   TWC don't care just as long as they get $ from me.  I am so sick of paying them to screw up my account.

This offer is from Comcast. Apparently, they use wi-fi for high speed internet. I don't know that much about wi-fi, but I thought it was slower than this.

This is $75 a month, more than TWC, but not much, with a great increase in speed, if it's true. ComCast offers 105 Mbps download service for $115 a month. Too rich for my blood.

If I were to subscribe to wi-fi, would everyone else in the building be able to piggyback on my signal? The guy at the end of the hall had a weird contraption hanging out of his window. It was for stealing wi-fi services. It's gone now. Hmm. Maybe he tried to steal cable service instead.

Does weather affect wi-fi services?

Time Warner Cable made true on their threat to pull the plug on journal broadcast, channel 4 from Milwaukee. They can't settle a deal and we are all the losers.

I happen to like the 5:30 NBC evening news broadcast with Brian Williams. From what channel 4 said, it will affect viewing Packer preseason games, too. That won't go over very well... I can't see die hard Packer fans sticking with TWC if this continues.

Every time I called TWC for service, I had to listen to a recording about the TV blackout. I don't even have TV anymore.

Is it just money causing the problem? I assume TMJ wants a certain amount of dollars for their broadcasts and TWC won't pay it. The corporations play chicken while, as kk said, the customers suffer. TWC should just raise their prices to cover the cost of TMJ's broadcasts. The customers have deep pockets. They won't mind.

Orbs - The wires that run from the telephone companies switching system, and then to your building MUST be able to support the speed. Most likely they can't!

What you need to do: Find out if the local phone lines can support the speed by asking TWC, or alternatively, the phone company. You will need Cat5 (Category 5 - twisted pair) wiring AT A MINIMUM to support the speed. Even that may not be good enough - then you need Fiber Optic cable.

That's unlikely in your area.

NEXT - what cable is used from the connection from the de-marc to your phone jack? THAT the TWC person can look at. You can also look - it must be Cat5 or above! This is twisted pair with very close twists.

IF you see the old 4 wire flat cable - you will NEVER achieve the high speed you are paying for!

ALSO - the advertised speed may REQUIRE fiber - fiber connectivity to achieve that speed. ASK TWC what cabling is required to achieve that speed.

Most likely you can never achieve that speed - so downgrade the service. OF COURSE THEY AREN'T GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT I JUST TOLD YOU.

ALSO - the connection from the demarc to your internet connection phone jack needs to be DIRECT - no splices - in many old buildings - splices are everywhere.

"But I share the line with me phone"

FUGGABOUT IT THEN! Downgrade the service - you can't share the line.

"What do I need to do then?"

Run a new dedicated Cat5 cable or higher from the demarc to your phone jack - yep, it's going to cost you!

Cat5 Cable

I used to do this stuff. I know.

Need more assistance? Want me to look? Contact me at you know where.

Stealing WI-FI is easy - IF the default settings aren't modified and given an exclusive network name.

When I lived in the trailer Court I had a wide variety of choices - as people wouldn't customize their default settings.

LOL.

Just link sys.

Got a mobile computer - or know someone with one that is Wi-Fi enabled? Ride around the neighborhood and see how many people haven't changed the open default!

LOL!

Won't support high speeds!

Other people in my building with Time Warner cable have few, if any, problems. My neighbor has had Road Runner for decades and had to call once about a bad modem. If the rest of the tenants are not having problems with TWC, then obviously the problem is with my connection.

The last technician who visited here asked me what the techs in the past have done to fix my connection. I said, "If I knew that, I wouldn't need you." Obviously, he had no clue.

Computers are the only area where consumers are expected to get involved in the repairs. Can you imagine buying a new car, having troubles, and calling the dealership only to have them tell you how to fix it yourself?

It's their equipment, not mine. It's their job to maintain it and service it. When I was in auto repair, I was responsible for the repair of cars. I never once blamed the customer when we had trouble with a job, nor did I ever expect them to fix it themselves. That was MY job, and I did it well. Why doesn't TWC do their job? I guess when a company is big enough, they don't have to follow the rules anymore.

I have paid full price for years but received only partial service. If I had pulled shit like this at the shop, I would have been sued and lost my job. TWC is so big that they doh's give a damn about a single customer. I'm an gnat to them. They want money from me every month, but they don't fix my service.

They're a lot like lying John: they expect everyone else to give them money and praise while they screw things up. When they fuck us over, we are expected to take it and say, "Sir, may I have another?"
