That's because it's not pronounced the way it's spelled.

Morning all. Sad time for us in Port Charlotte. Had a Sheriff's Deputy killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance. The man shot him.. One shot only and the Bullet struck right above his vest. Shooter then committed suicide. That's the only news story in the paper or on TV.

This was the first deputy we have lost while on duty. That in itself is amazing. But this is a pretty quiet area crime-wise. Gunfire? Drive-bys? Never.

😓

Sorry, Beejay, about your local tragedy. It is always a terrible situation when an officer who is trying to help and just doing his job is killed.

The gun violence up here has been remarkable. Milwaukee has had a string of murders, and they keep on coming. They report about it, but it is almost like they want to hold back, now. It has come to such excess, visitors and tourism could start noticing and stay away.

That is so sad Beejay. I saw his picture and he was pretty young.

I actually have found myself doing this.

NO offense Beejay, but It IS Florida, and has tens of thousands of transients, and BAD folks all over. Our county, city Is the same. We have 50% of the city taken by renters, and some of them are only here, because of the poor sentencing by our judges. It's a drug haven, and they let them out on probation.

I feel terrible for the Deputy's family, these things shouldn't happen, but I fear, It won't get any better, any time soon. They should feed some of the scum to the hungary Alligators. Frankly that Is what they should have done with the shooters body.

Sorry to hear about that, Beejay.

A friend of mine whose brother was a cop said that the police hate domestic violence calls because you never know when they'll turn on the police. His brother got smacked in the head by a cast iron frying pan from a woman who called the police to protect her. As soon as they started to take the man into custody, she started swinging.

Every time I hear about an officer getting killed in the line of duty reminds of the guy who shoot and killed an officer then the other sheriffs had a shootout with the bad guy and when the corner checked him, he was hit something like 68 times. When the news person asked why he was shoot 68 times the sheriff replied, “because that’s all the bullets we had”!

Toad, those transients aren't here. We have a few homeless around, but most are harmless. I truly don't think we have tens of thousands of them. That is, of course, unless you count those troublemaking snow birds! Then, i would have to rethink my response.

Our Sheriff's Deputies do a good job of policing around here. An excellent job, in fact. Speeders, some "grow houses," excessive noise, smoking weed, minor drug charges, etc...and domestic stuff. Of all, domestic is the most dangerous for law enforcement.

In any event, this shooting took place in an upscale apartment/condo complex. Fairly new. Not a rundown neighborhood at all. My point being that being of a certain ilk had nothing to do with this situation. Violent people know no boundaries as far as social status. They come from all walks of life.

This fellow was supposed to be backup. Instead, he is dead. Got there first.

Yes, this is FL ....unfortunately we have had a couple of cases handed to jurors without sufficient evidence, Case Anthony...I definitely think she murdered her child.

George Zimmerman...well, I don't think anyone made any good decisions that night. If there had not been a gun, it might have been one heck of a fight, but I think everyone would still be around to tell their side of the story. Too many media opinions were thrown into that one. Oh, before anyone jumps on me, I'm NOT anti gun.

I don't think anyone came out a winner in that case.

Off my soapbox. I haven't gotten into any deep discussions on the JTI site in a long time. I'd better leave now.
