Michigan Lighthouse compliments of the Polar Vortex

St Joseph Lighthouse, Lake Michigan 1/2014

This is the St. Joseph Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Today, it is encased in ice
as the Midwest was hit with wind chills that reached   -50 degrees.

Beautiful but deadly.

A real winter ain't no joke.

another bad part, the dang stuff can do so much damage when it freezes and expands.

Our city streets can attest to the damage caused by ice...

If we had installed rubber roads as Dickert originally suggested, there would be no problems.

I'm just worried about all of it melting too fast. Not that you have to worry about it now. The Farmers Almanac guy was on the NBC Nightly News and said this isn't close to being over yet.
I'd like to kill that damn groundhog.

Jan, did you know they are/where experimenting with chopping up used car tires and mixing it in with asphalt specially for the reason of expansion whether it be hot or cold.

Biggest problem with it the road became 'slippery' and it was/is hard to stop on. Stopping distant increased dramatically.
