"3rd Coast Bicycles burglarized this morning"

From RacineUncovered:

"3rd Coast Bicycles, was burglarized early this morning – ADT called the owner at 6:30 this morning and as the owner rushed down to his shop, he saw 2 male blacks between 16-18 with his (owners) BMX bike (red 20 inch BMX bike) and by the time he was able to do a U turn to track them down he lost them. They used a crow bar to gain access to his shop. They also took the cash drawer and all the money in it (there was only a very small amount of money in the drawer). Anyone with information please contact Racine County Dispatch at 262-886-2300 or you can contact Racine Crime Stoppers at (262) 636-9330, via e-mail through the website www.racine.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing in TIP417 with your text message.”

I post this because the Journal Times just featured a story on this business' success downtown and its move to expand: "Downtown bicycle shop to move, quadruple space" - http://journaltimes.com/business/local/downtown-bicycle-shop-to-move-quadruple-space/article_86e64f30-cba3-11e3-9030-001a4bcf887a.html

You can't have anything decent in this town without either the local government or criminals (often the same) ruining it.

Why did you differentiate between local government officials and criminals ?

That's a shame the store was robbed. I have never gone inside of it, but I have ridden by it many times.

One of the big drawbacks to the location was that it was off the beaten path and the lack of parking. Hopefully after Porters is torn down, it will be turned into much needed parking.

Perhaps his costs will also go down, because the building he is moving to is assessed for less$$$.

As a point of interest, his current location at 210 Third St. is actually part of the larger building/lot assessed as 246 Main St. There has not been a tenant in the front half of the building for a long time, and there is a sign there saying, for lease or sale. It is assessed at: $320,000.

401 Sixth St. will not only provide greater visibility, but it will also provide more space. It is assessed at $108,000 and has also been empty for a long time.

I believe there was supposed to be a convenience store there at one time, but it was opposed by Dickert and his Common Council Toadies and led to some controversy.

Click HERE for a map showing the two locations.

I bicycle a LOT - and there are very few riders in Racine. Often I have the bike trails to myself or share them with people walking Dogs. Today I biked around 15 miles, and covered Downtown, the Lakefront, and the Emertsen Road area.

Put the remote down, get a bike, and get riding!

RCC, that's what the "(often the same)" was for.

When I was a kid, 401 6th St. was Premium Sales. Big toy inventory upstairs.

I remember the convenience store proposal, but I thought it was for the other side of the street. As I recall, the applicant was not the correct race.

I keep thinking that turning Porter's into a parking lot will greatly enhance the area. The courthouse, the businesses, and the bars all can use the parking. Unfortunately, they are going to make it a temporary lot because of the ongoing development delusion epidemic. They should make it a permanent lot, constructed of concrete, with some landscaping.
