"Roundabout entrance cleared after semi strikes two vehicles"

From The Journal

"RACINE - A semi truck briefly blocked the Sixth Street entrance to the Downtown roundabout Tuesday afternoon after striking two vehicles, according to police.

"The semi was apparently trying to park on Sixth Street just before the roundabout when it backed into a city bus, according to police on the scene.

"The impact broke off the bus' side mirror, and the semi also reportedly skimmed the side mirror of another car parked on Sixth Street, police said.

"The westbound Sixth Street roundabout entrance by City Hall, 730 Washington Ave., was closed before 2 p.m., although the roundabout itself remained open. The entrance was cleared by 2:15 p.m."

I can't wait for the gangsters and drug dealers to encounter the proposed roundabout at Douglas Ave. and Hamilton St.  I bet that within a week, a vehicle will get air from driving right through the middle of the thing.

I have never, once, heard of anyone pro-roundabout. EVER... there should be a law against having them, especially in snow ridden states

Some pro-roundabout people post on the Journal Times site, but they are far outnumbered by the anti-roundabouts.

I hate the damn things. They're just another way that the state controls our lives.

The one pro-comment I've seen repeatedly is that roundabouts slow traffic and that is a good thing. A four-way stop (which Douglas and Hamilton already is) slows things even more. If traffic is too fast either enforce the current speed limit or lower it.

This roundabout will be painted over with gang symbols within a week. I feel sorry for the children who have to cross there. It's very confusing.

The roundabout by City Hall is a disaster. Trying to figure out which lane to be in, trying to find a place to park to meet Irregulars.

I didn't like it one bit.

My first roundabout experience was in Barbados. This island drives on the opposite side of the road as well. I think I drove around that thing four times before I got onto the proper exit. My husband couldn't stop laughing at me.

You must also remember that ALL turn signals are to be used when using a Roundabout. The FUCKING City here forced one on us, because the STATE paid for It vs. WE would have to pay for lights or Stop Signs. I asked the City Administrator who he thinks THE STATE gets It's money from? We don't even have a safe place to eat In this City, but we have a ROUNDABOUT.

The one downtown is in a very busy, bad spot. I've had a lot of trouble with it trying to find parking and having to go beyond, turn around and have to come back through. The one way street deal makes it a very odd spot for a round-about.

However, the one on Valley Drive, by Park High School is very effective and makes that intersection safer.... that is, if everyone using it knew who had the right of way.

I also have to agree with Liz. When snow covered, it can be dangerous if you enter, not aware of where the curbing lies beneath the snow. I had major concerns on the one by Hwy. K in a blizzard.

Roundabouts are part of the dumbing down of the USA.
