"A state and federal investigation uncovered inconsistent staffing levels resulting in an unsafe environment for patients at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints inpatient mental health unit.

"Acting on several complaints, surveyors from the State Division of Quality Assurance (DQA), and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) conducted an unannounced visit in May to the children and adolescent unit, and adult inpatient mental health units at 1320 Wisconsin Avenue.

"The investigation by DQA and CMMS uncovered instances of uncontrollable adolescents being placed in the same unit as sex offenders, a number of sexual assaults between patients, discriminatory admission practices, and nurses being told by management to falsify safety checks by saying the checks were conducted when they were not."

I worked at the place In the late 60s, and It was like a small Hotel for the semi ill patients, and the other ward was a LOCK-UP, for the really violent, and severely ill patients, It was called 2 West, and the Hotel like was 2 North. These things didn't happen that long ago, for some reason. From time to time, a patient would become violent, and had to be held back, but It was pretty easy otherwise. I really only worked In 2 North. Went In 2 West a couple of times, and didn't enjoy It. Pretty horrible. I have no idea what the number of patients Is now. At that time, perhaps only 20-25 people were In North. I'm sure TODAY Is a totally different story?

In my early years in AA, I made a few visits to said wards. Later, I made a friend from Kenosha who has schizophrenia. For some reason, when her condition gets really bad, they send her to the Racine unit. I don't know why.
