The parents of Kevin Nicholson — who’s seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic U.S Sen. Tammy Baldwin in November — do not support their son’s candidacy. In fact, both parents have given the maximum donations allowed under law to Baldwin’s campaign. The Nicholsons, who are staunch progressives, also donated to an opponent of House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Morgan, a 6-year-old Newfoundland dog, has become quite a helpmate to her human companions. They’ve taught the 125-pound pooch to use a snow blower, which she can operate up to 60 feet at a time. Morgan also picks up empty cans, vacuums the house and cooks hotdogs on campfires. We think Morgan’s earned extra treats.
Speeding in the Bible Belt
A woman who led police on a high-speed chase told arresting officers that she was Mother Mary en route to pick up Baby Jesus and had permission from God to speed. She also told police she had died five years ago. She’s been charged with several offenses.

Helping the poor?
A 25-year-old server at a Florida restaurant says she lost her job after posting on Facebook that she was stiffed for a $735 takeout order placed by a local church. Tamlynn Yoder told the Palm Beach Post that she took to social media after Christ Fellowship church placed a 75-item order from Outback Steakhouse in Palm Beach Gardens. Yoder said because she spent much of her shift preparing the order, she only made $18 in tips that day. She didn’t mention the restaurant by name. This is a little late, but nonetheless timely. The Republican Party of Kenosha held a raffle last August to raise money. The first prize was an AR-15 rifle, the semi-automatic weapon that was used in the recent mass shooting at a Florida high school. Law enforcement says it’s been the weapon of choice in many of the nation’s deadliest massacres.
Really for Red!
For many viewers of NBC’s coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympic games, the first big moment was seeing Red Gerard win the gold in slope-style snowboarding and exclaim, “Holy F---.” To celebrate the victory — and perhaps the 17-year-old’s youthful exuberance — Gerard’s hometown of Silverthorne, Colorado, changed its name for the weekend to “Goldthorne.” Gerard learned to ride the rails in a makeshift backyard snowboard park in Silverthorne.
NBC’s so sorries
NBC has issued multiple apologies for remarks of commentators and hosts covering the Winter Olympics, including a statement about the benefits of Japan’s influence on South Korea. Korea was under Japan’s brutal, colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. Katie Couric also apologized for saying the Dutch are so successful in speed skating because skates have been used as a form of transportation when canals freeze in the Netherlands.
The Boston Police Department thought to mark Black History Month with a tweet celebrating the former Celtics coach who was first in the NBA to draft a black player, start five black players and hire the first African-American head coach. The problem? The tribute was to Red Auerbach, who is white. The department’s tweet was deleted less than an hour after it was posted and followed up with a tweet about Bill Russell, the NBA’s first black head coach.

The school has adopted uniforms designed by the Italian fashion brand Giorgio Armani, which has offices nearby. The uniform — a navy-blue jacket and matching trousers or skirt, a long-sleeve shirt and a hat — will set parents back about $729.
