It was scary moments Monday night as police surrounded the building and evacuated customers and employees.
It all happened at the Family Dollar right off Greenfield Avenue.
Police say they entered the store shortly after 5 p.m. The female indicated that she had a gun and the two began taking items off the shelves.
Police closed the street between 92nd and 94th as people evacuated.
"I was going up there to buy something, I just hear people yelling, screaming, I hit it and leave fast, everybody ran over here and started watching, police just started pulling up," said Chris Jackson.
Jackson said he was inside when it happened, but he wasn't sure what was going on.
Police moved tactically toward the building with weapons drawn.
Officers say the suspects exited through the back, but police initially believed they were hiding out in a back office.
Witnesses said they were there for an hour watching police, who eventually even flew a drone over the store.
People who lived nearby said it's shocking to see a dozen police cars from at least three different departments respond to a situation in West Allis.
"It's typically pretty quiet over here," said neighbor Ethan Kowalinski, "It's kind of scary but it'll be alright."
Responding police departments included Wauwatosa, West Allis, and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.
