I think most swedes would consider this day bigger than even Christmas (eve actually as swedes always celebrate on the eves of holidays).<br /><br />Today you should dance around the maypole (which is a huge phallic symbol), girls should pick 7 different types of flowers and make a wreath to wear on their heads, at night you put it under your pillow and dream of the man you will marry. <br /><br />Food is a big part of it, boiled potatoes and pickled herring and grill out. Everything is of course followed by a snaps and a song. A midsommar cake make of strawberries and cream. <br /><br />My family here does not really celebrate like your average swede. It's not really a big deal, but we did do a little of the traditional things. I ate herring and we grilled and I made a cake.
