The James Webb Space Telescope will be 6.5 meters and is scheduled to launch in 2014 (I am betting at least two years worth of delays) and it will be mainly an infrared telescope. What concerns me more is that Hubble is the only thing up there doing work in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum and we will lose that since no UV telescopes are on in the pipeline. You have to do UV astronomy in space since our atmosphere absorbs most of the UV.hale-bopphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02912748388430176772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-514457884876261588.post-54029286841861073472009-05-20T10:59:38.199-05:002009-05-20T10:59:38.199-05:00Hale, is this sort of bitter-sweet for you, knowin...Hale, is this sort of bitter-sweet for you, knowing that the Hubble will only last another five or so years?Beejayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09651209773033697549noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-514457884876261588.post-37828090063377817952009-05-19T23:50:13.368-05:002009-05-19T23:50:13.368-05:00It aways amazes to see pics of the shuttle launch....It aways amazes to see pics of the shuttle launch...drewzepmeisterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15553144737305430009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-514457884876261588.post-38013620780340995122009-05-19T14:44:00.000-05:002009-05-19T14:44:00.000-05:00Yeah, I've been following the story in the news, t...Yeah, I've been following the story in the news, too, and wondering when hale would post.
