Patriotic retirement:
There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force; pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations:
1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.
All this and it's still cheaper than the "bailout".

It's a nice thought, but not really.
Bailers...I agree it wouldn't work. Reason being, it's to simple.
No CEO bonuses, no politicians with their fingers in the pie. That just ain’t American! Ya...I’m a smartass....
$40 trillion is cheaper?
Yeah, I think there is some miscounting of zeroes going on here. 40*10^6*1*10^6=40*10^12 or $40 trillion, which is currently about between 2.5 and 3 times the US annual GDP. Not cheap.
Heh. Another way to figure it is: a million times a million is a trillion, then multiply times 40.
Also, let's think some more. Let's age me a couple of years to put me over 50. Okay, I have a million dollars, but subtracting, say, $100,000 for a house and $28,000 for an American car leaves me with $872,000.
Now I'm retired. Let's say my life expectancy is only age 80. That's 30 more years, with just $29,067 each year to live on. $2,422 per month, never adjusted for inflation.
You still haven't done anything to deal with health care costs, and I sure can't afford insurance on that budget, so any injury or illness could wipe me out.
You have done nothing to deal with the environment and in fact added 40 million inefficient cars to our roads -- cars that may only last 5 years, or 10 at best. Then what?
Yes, the allure of Austin Powers' proverbial "one million dollars" sounds tempting, but it's not all that much when you think it through.
Our country is facing extremely complicated problems. Fortunately, we finally have leadership that's working seriously to find real solutions.
Two thoughts. 1. Don't buy anything Chinese. We did this in the 50's I think with Japan. We were not supposed to buy twinkle lights from Japan for the Christmas tree. Buy American (so what if you pay a little more...you're saving an American job. Yes I am that old. 2. What number comes after 'trillion'. Just wondering.
Who cares if it works. It works for ME.
All of this SER stimulus pkg works for me....New job.hurray......new car GOOD..New house.....OH YEAH.....its a nice dream....
I think it is a great idea. Like Anonymous asked, what does come after trillion anyway?
I think what a lot of people worry about is that bread lines come after a trillion...
No, the easy plan won't work. The thought is cool though. It's a joke, humor. The truth is, we have been very stupid for way too long, and too many people have been very greedy and were allowed to get away with it.
Our health care is running us into the ground. The population is aging and costs have already become beyond manageable with the elderly that we are currently supporting.
I'm not saying I think Obama is the savior of our country. The man sure can speak and think on his feet... at least from what I've witnessed so far. He also isn't afraid to tackle the tough questions thrown at him.
Heres a thought. Does anyone have any idea how much money is spent in Healthcare for illegal aliens?
I have seen several versions of this floating around the internet and received them via email. Invariably, the "cheap" solution touted costs much more than anything we are currently doing. This isn't even the worst one...I had one sent to me that would have cost over $100 trillion (the worldwide annual GDP is about $50 trillion if I remember correctly). I deleted that email, unfortunately, and I don't remember the exact proposal.
Anonymous, quadrillion comes after trillion. This list should hold us a while.
Well I was forced to 'retire' so where is my $$
