View from the Top

Over the weekend, I went the lighthouse where they had open tours to the public. I've taken three trips up this historic symbol of Racine. This time I brought a camera! If you have never been up there, I suggest you should! The views are great!

It's a long way down!

  1. God I miss the beauty of that lake. Thanks for the pictures and a "need to do" the next time we are in Racine.

  2. A long time ago I was up there - GREAT view! Now I have trouble with so many steps. I tried to go to the top of Holy Hill but had to s top half way up. That's a nice view in fall. Old age sucks!

  5. I remember about 10 years ago there was an opening for a caretaker at the lighthouse. I toyed with the idea of applying.

I've never been to the lighthouse. Cool pics, drew. I'm sure I'd have trouble with the steps, too.

Sasso, it's been years since I've thought of Holy Hill. Thanks for the memories. When I was a kid, my family went there a number of times. I returned years later with my then wife. I wonder what the upkeep of that place is like?

  6. Thanks everyone for your kind comments! Actually climbing the spiral staircase wasn't all that bad. I think it's like 110 steps to the top. (I could be wrong) There are rest stops in the window foyers.

  7. When I was a kid my friend and her family were the caretakers. Spent many days running around the grounds and the such but was never to the top. I always wanted to do that.. Very cool pics.

When in Tallinn, Estonia I climbed to the bell tower in one of their chruches.. The tower was about 500 ft tall and the stairs extremely uneven and only a rope as a railing. We did that on the first day of our vacation while I was 6 months pregnant.. it was well worth the climb.

  8. Really good pics, Drew.

I've never been to the top.. I don't think I'd be able to get down once I got up there...
