  1. I took the TGV from Paris to Strasborg a couple years ago...sweet ride.

  2. I'm jealous. I wanted to ride the TGV the minute I heard of it. TGV stands for Tres Grande Vitesse, meaning: very fast, in French.

I notice that we have no photo of Amtrak?

  3. I took the train once from Phoenix to Chicago. Thank God I was drunk the entire time.

  4. Gee, thanks for the update. Just what I was looking for... tee hee.

I watched a PBS or Travel Channel program that showed Amtrak's Empire Builder route and the stunning scenery you can see from the train. I checked into the cost and it was pretty steep, especially if you included sleeping quarters. I can't imagine being confined to sleep in a general seating area, so I ruled it out. Also, I prefer to shower every day, and prefer my company to do the same.

  5. Amtrak use to have “Superliners”, I’m not sure if they still have them. They are/were double decker cars which were great for viewing the country side etc.

I compared some of their rates to flying.
    Flying - Chicago to Seattle - $684 to $725 – Round trip

Train - Milwaukee to Seattle - $604. This is one reserved seat and zero amenities. You sleep in the seat and it is a 44 hour ride!

  6. yeah I looked into traveling by Amtrak to visit a friend that lives in Maine.. I cannot remember how much it was going to cost but there was no way I could have afforded.. at that paoint it was more expensive than a flight there..

  7. I just heard on the news that Jewish people don't want the TGV to run in the States. The people who own/run it took prisoners to the gas chambers in Germany.
