Why would you sleep on the edge of a cliff or in mid-air??? OMG! I wouldn't sleep at all!
Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode, Tony took a plunge when George was looking for a sandwich. In all honesty, are these people out of their minds? Orbs, are you referring to people or wild animals?
I saw people doing this when I was in Yosemite last fall. You can even see their lights on the face of the rocks at night.

Just hang a camper off the side of the mountain, then you'll have all the comforts of home.
