It gives my the goosebumps as well...
I may not been old enough to remember the events that happened at Kent State(I was a mere young lad), the song gave me a history lesson among Neil Young's searing guitar.
I played against Kent State in the mid to late 70's. At that time, the only memorial to this event was a grave marker where the shooting took place in the street, pretty sad. I wonder if they have changed that and made it more noticeable.
I just caught myself singing this song the other day. Somebody politically pissed me off, and I just started singing. She had NO idea what the hell I was singing. I have this song on a PINK vinyl bootleg LP. At least I HOPE it's still In the boxes I have.

That guitar and that voice, with CSN backing him up, yeah, it still gives me chills.

ReplyDeleteI also have the LIFE magazine, with the girl kneeling, and screaming over the dead student. To this day It still makes me sick.
