  1. I knew this for some time, but I must say, I didn't do anything about It. The good bags we have are lined with some kind of foil insulation, and are really stiff. When I use them, If I have anything that could contaminate, I usually leave that stuff In a plastic bag, and place It into the bigger bag. I don't think these bags are as bad as the handles on the grocery carts. I think a person at each store should be responsible to clean off each handle before a customer uses It, NOT the customer. I also don't like people placing their ASS on the edge of the low bunkers that hold different items. I think this conversation could go on forever. Perhaps I will start selling masks, and Playtex rubber gloves at the store?

  2. I had heard about this "contamination" of the reusable bags and the need to periodically launder them, as well. I hadn't heard of the comparison to undergarments. I thought that was a bit crude and qualified as "irregular" news. Whose undergarments did they use and how incontinent were they? lol

I never stick gooey packages of meat directly into my grocery bags, and no shoes or items other than food go into them.

Btw, do you know you are supposed to wash your canned goods before piercing them with a can opener? The rinds of melons can house bacteria, and those should be rinsed or washed before cutting, as well... buying or using paper bags (and especially corrugated cardboard boxes) from the store can transfer cockroaches/eggs to your home.... the paranoia list continues.

  3. KK, When I was a kid on Grange Ave. we spent lots of time hanging In the lot of Piggly Wiggly on Taylor. Quite often a Steam Cleaning Co. came to the store, and Steam Cleaned the Carts. I wonder If that Is don anymore? Think of the bacteria hanging on grocery carts? BTW, I know about washing the tops of cans, but not melons, or cardboard, but It makes sense.

  4. Toad, I believe we NEED a small dose of everything out there to challenge and strengthen our immune systems... that is if you are a normal healthy person. I'm not recommending that you lick the cart handles, but trying to kill all bacteria is not a good thing either. Working among hundreds of kids, I find I am healthier than most, because my body knows how to fight these germs.

  5. Me and bacteria don't get along, no no no no no........

Door knobs, money, payphones are other big carriers of germs/bacteria

  6. There's E. coli in my underpants? Well, I don't eat out of them too often.

I heard that sponges hold lots of germs/bacteria. You're supposed to nuke them occasionally in the microwave to kill the germs.

  7. I run my sponges through the dishwasher. That kills the bacteria, or so they say.

The science classes always roamed the school with petri dishes, looking to "win" their class project by finding the dirtiest surface. It was always door handles, despite swabbing the gross bathrooms, water fountains, cafeteria tables, computer keyboards and mice.
