Top Dog Shuts Down Again

Top Dog Hot Dogs has closed their store at Regency Mall.  I am beside myself with grief, weeping and gnashing of (false) teeth.  How could they do this to me?

There's a sign that says they will continue to operate "Smoke on the Water," the concession stand near the 5th Street boat launches.  The sign also says the hot dog cart will be out during downtown festivities.

Oh, woe is me!

  1. Sad, but look at the bright side Orbs; you can get a hotdog and sit and eat it while staring at the beautiful lake. I miss my lake.

  2. Orbs maybe at our next get together he can cater it if the cost isn't prohibitive.

    I have never had one.

  3. A Chicago dog is $3, but they have tons of choices, at least at the Main Street and Regency Mall locations. Smoke on the Water is supposed to have pulled pork sandwiches. I've never had one. I don't know if he has a beer license.

I remember years ago me and my father being down their for some reason and dad was buying beer for himself and pop for me.

  4. yes, he has beer there, pitcher specials, if you're on facebook, Smoke'd is there, they have spaces for seating, we'll have to try it out. some of the menu is the same there, if I remember right, looks nice, tho I've not been there yet. Orbs, any time you want to go, I'll go with you!

  5. The cost per foot of space at a mall is prohibitive. He probably couldn't afford the cost of doing business. On top of the rent they also have "Common Area Maintenance" which makes It even worse. It's too bad, but you know the saying "Greed Is Good" for the mall owners, while they lose their anchor stores.

  6. I can't remember who said that to me Toad, but that's the first thing they said. The Mall rent must be crazy.

LM, your schedule is tighter than mine.

  7. Orbs, you pick a day that looks good weather wise and we'll go this week. I am out by 11 most days, even earlier on Wednesday, I'm going to try getting some interviews on the north side in the morning after I get out at 8, could work then or any other day, pick the best weather one and that's what we'll do :) anybody want to join us, maybe noonish?

  8. I'd like to give it at try, too, if the weather and the schedule is right!

  9. Wednesday or Thursday have great forecasts, low 70's and sunny, at least that's what it's predicting now. I'm not sure where exactly it is, looking for a good navigator or 2 :) let me know which day works best, how's noon?

  10. No one can compete with Chik Fila'! That is the problem. I know one sells chicken, the other wieners, but Chik Fila' rules always! The Chinese place across from Chik Fila' is holding it's own for now.....

  11. LM, I forgot that you did a Local Loyalty blog on them: http://www.jtirregulars.com/2014/02/local-loyalty-smoked-on-water.html

Maybe we should wait until the forecast is a little closer. Either day works for me.

  12. Salmon-A-Rama starts today through next week. They've moved it out on the causeway. I'm sure that hurts Caleb's stand. At least the boats will have to be launched and brought in many of them at the 5th street launches. There might a lot of vehicles parked there with boat trailers.
