Poll: "Should We Drug Test for Medicaid, Food Stamps, Unemployment?"

From Racine County Eye:

By Heather Asiyanbi in Government · January 22, 2015

"Gov. Scott Walker is proposing legislation that would require recipients of Medicaid, food stamps and some residents collecting unemployment to pass a drug test as part of the benefit eligibility requirements.

"The governor announced the change ahead of his 2015-2017 proposed budget and said in a statement that the drug testing will help workers fill jobs across the state, a story on journaltimes.com reads.

"Not everyone agrees.

“'Rather than getting distracted by presidential posturing, we need to work together and find real solutions that will create jobs, grow our economy and put Wisconsin on a path to success,' Senate Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling, D-LaCrosse, is quoted as saying."

How about we also drug test people in office?  Hell, just drug test the entire nation and deport the druggies.

  1. "Drug test for Medicaid, Food Stamps, Unemployment" NO, BUT ALL ELECTED public officials should be tested, starting at Governor, down to Council members.

  2. Take Medicaid away, PEOPLE die. Take away Food Stamps, CHILDREN starve. Take Employment Insurance away, people STARVE, and DIE, or possibly even commit suicide. If giving drug tests Is the best thing you can think of, your incapable of doing the job you were elected to do. Try providing jobs to repair the infrastructure at good pay, and perhaps the problem will resolve itself? The train from Madison to Milwaukee, would have provided many, many jobs, but our Governor didn't like the idea, so all the money It provided never came, only expenses. and on, and on, and on.

  3. I totally agree with Toad's second comment. Proactive instead of reactive. There will always be those who choose to abuse, choose to take more than they give, be idle when they could be productive. Drug testing won't change anything. People who choose to cheat, will find a way around it anyway.

We are the richest country. We can afford to take care of our people, and we need to take care of those who can not take care of themselves... without making the honest and those truly in need feel guilty or shamed.

Did you hear the latest? By 2016, the top 1% will own more capital than the rest of us all combined. When people have to go without medications and children are homeless and hungry, that is grossly insane to me. How many bedrooms, vacations and boats do they need?

  4. they have tried in other states and the cost to administer is to high compare to the amount of people caught.

  5. And God forbid we take a little tax from those one percenters. After all, they all own small business and it would hurt them. Except it wouldn't.

    BTW, well said Toad.
