"Residents Not Told About High Lead Levels Until Now"

"Lead levels in Racine residents’ municipal water were nearly double the allowable levels in 2014 and customers weren’t notified until earlier this week, but progress has been made this year.

"A letter from the utility, sent on October 5, 2015, notified residents that 5,025 of the 33,500 property owners in 2014 were at risk of high lead levels just over the U.S. EPA  standard of 15 parts per billion, with some lead levels as high as 25 ppb. This letter was supposed to be sent to all property owners at the beginning of 2015, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources mandate.

"Drinking water with high levels of lead can cause delays in physical and mental development in babies and children, according to the EPA."

My memory sure isn't what it used to be. Could it be lead? Hmmm. Drink water, they say.....

  2. When they replaced the sewers in my mom's neighborhood 20 years ago, you could see lead laterals taken out from every house and replaced. I (and many others) grew up on water from those laterals. I've often said that Racine's low IQ is because of the lead laterals.

My memory never was what it was. Booze and drugs wiped out whatever was left, and now I'm on psych meds, so I never know what's going on anymore.

    Get the lead out!
