RACINE, WI – A teen was charged Tuesday in a Racine County Court with misdemeanor counts after he brandishing a steak knife, according to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
Angel Martinez, 17, of Racine, was charged with two counts of negligent handling of a weapon, domestic abuse, disorderly conduct and three counts of bail jumping. If convicted of all charges, he faces up to four years six months in prison and/or fines up to $51,000.
According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Racine Police Department were called to a report of battery on Sept. 15 at a residence. A woman told police Martinez was dating her daughter and the two lived with her at her residence. The woman came home to find Martinez hold her daughter’s purse and a towel with blood.
“Something happened,” he told the woman.
When she went into the house, the woman found blood and damage to the walls. Two kitchen knives also came up missing,
A witness told the police that Martinez had come by the home to collect his belongings because he was no longer welcome at the home. Hearing yelling, he found Martinez in the backyard pointing a knife at her. The witness yelled at Martinez to put the knife down. He then grabbed him and forced him to the ground.
Martinez’s girlfriend had injuries to her face, but she denied that Martinez injured her.
Previously released on bond February, Martinez violated the conditions of his bond three times by engaging in criminal conduct, the complaint reads.
At an initial appearance on Tuesday, Racine County Circuit Cout Judge Alice Rudebusch set a cash bond of $400. A preliminary hearing has been set at 9:15 a.m. for November 4.
EDITOR’S NOTE: This story corrects a previous version that should have read that Martinez brandished a knife. Racine County Eye regrets the error.
