Downtown Racine to host St. Patrick's Day pub crawl next Saturday

From TMJ4:

RACINE — Downtown Racine Corporation and 17 bars and restaurants will host a St. Patrick's Day pub crawl on March 13 with COVID-19 safety precautions in place.

Marci Bruley owns Marci's on Main in downtown Racine and is helping organize the event. She recalls St. Patrick's Day was the last day before the pandemic forced businesses to close.

"We were all devastated for quite a few months," Bruley said. "So this is just a hope, you know, something to bring stuff back a little bit for us."

Racine health rules allow bars and restaurants to operate at 50 percent capacity. Bruley says they will count and make sure people socially distance and wear masks.

City officials told TMJ4 News people and businesses need to follow and enforce COVID-19 safety precautions. A spokesperson said health officials advise you to wear a mask when you're not drinking, social distance from those not in your group, bring hand sanitizer with you, and wash your hands frequently.

State data shows Racine County has a high case activity level, and over the past seven days, the daily average of new confirmed cases is 17.

State health authorities say people can't let their guard down. Instead, if they want to socialize in person, they say go outside and stand six feet apart with masks.

"We are so close, Wisconsin," said DHS Deputy Health Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk. "And by combining increasing vaccines with strong preventive behaviors, we will reduce the threat of COVID-19 in our state."

The City of Racine Health Department data shows there have been 8,158 total cases and 112 total deaths.

There is no parade this year, but Bruley hopes people can support local businesses in some way.

"For families to come down and shop locally, come in, stop in for great food, eat lunch," Bruley said. "And have so many different locations so so many people aren’t crowded into one spot."

Tasia White opened Taejavu's on Main in October. She says it was her dream to open a restaurant to honor her roots.

"I started at the bottom," White said. "I started at the roughest moment for the restaurant industry, and to see the love and support my community and my city has given to me."

She said growing up her grandmother always made corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day, and she hopes she can share that tradition safely next Saturday.

"It is getting warmer and people are getting vaccines, and things like that, so people are definitely coming out more, so I'm just optimistic that it will be a fun Saturday," White said.

Rampant Shoplifting Forces Ten Bay Area Walgreens To Close

From ZeroHedge:

FRIDAY, MAR 05, 2021 - 19:20

The effects of the virus pandemic and socio-economic implosion that followed compounded with failed liberal leadership could soon transform San Francisco into an empty ghost town.

Such is the case with pharmacy giant Walgreens fleeing the metro area amid a rash of shoplifting. Since 2019, Walgreens has closed ten stores in the city, with the latest store set to close later this month. The closure is the third since October 2020.

According to Washington Examiner, the Walgreens at the corner of Bush and Larkin streets posted a notification on their front windows announcing the closure on Mar. 17.

"All of us knew it was coming. Whenever we go in there, they always have problems with shoplifters," a regular customer, Sebastian Luke, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Last October, a news reporter with Inside Edition captured the moment when a man jumped over a Walgreens counter and stole an air bed. The video shows the man taking off on an electric scooter as he escaped without any intervention from employees or customers.

"I feel sorry for the clerks, they are regularly verbally assaulted," Luke said. "The clerks say there is nothing they can do. They say Walgreens' policy is to not get involved. They don't want anyone getting injured or getting sued, so the guys just keep coming in and taking whatever they want."

At one location, the San Francisco Chronicle said it loses about $1,000 per day in merchandise because of shoplifting.

San Francisco Chamber of Commerce told SFGATE that complaints of shoplifting at drugstores are "frequent."

Theft of less than $950 in goods is treated as a nonviolent misdemeanor under California law. But in most cases, for shoplifting, the criminal is released.

The San Francisco Police Department told the Washington Examiner that it is "aware of incidents of retail theft where groups of suspects enter stores, grab product and merchandise and flee."

... and with the exodus of city residents, the decimation of small and medium-sized enterprises (due to pandemic), and soaring socio-economic problems in the metro area, San Fran could one day be a hallowed out town, sort of like Baltimore and or Detroit if these trends persist.

Japan Supercomputer Finds Double-Masking Doesn't Work

From ZeroHedge:

Tyler Durden's Photo
BY TYLER DURDEN
FRIDAY, MAR 05, 2021 - 20:00

Many Americans are asking themselves: Is double making offering more protection against COVID-19 than a single mask?

To answer that question, we ask readers: Does anyone wear two condoms?

The answer is probably no. But members of the Biden administration and at least one state governor are touting the extra benefits of double masking.

Last month, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the president and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, initially said, "there's no data that indicates that that is going to make a difference." He then flip-flopped, saying that the CDC is investigating "whether two masks may be better than one" and added that "it makes common sense"... and added that the reason they have not recommended it until now is that "they are a science-based organization."

Fauci then added, unscientifically, "if one mask serves as a physical barrier, it makes common sense, and certainly can't hurt and might help to wear two masks."

This week, California Governor Gavin Newsom also doubled-down (literally) on double making following Texas and Mississippi actions to go maskless.

"We will be doubling down on mask-wearing," said Newsom on Thursday, "not arguing to follow the example of Texas and other states that I think are making a terrible mistake."

According to Reutersscience doesn't bode well for the folks pushing double masks.

A Japanese supercomputer simulation showed this week that wearing two layers of masks provided minimal benefit in blocking the virus.

A study released by scientific research institute Riken and Kobe University on Thursday contradict Fauci and Newsom's recommendations that double masking is "common sense."

"Researchers used the Fugaku supercomputer to model the flow of virus particles from people wearing different types and combinations of mask," according to Reuters.

They found a single surgical-type mask had 85% effectiveness in blocking particles if worn correctly, and a polyurethane mask was around 89%.

Researchers said wearing two masks doesn't help because it builds air resistance and causes leakage around the edges.

"The performance of double masking simply does not add up," wrote lead researcher Makoto Tsubokura.

In this presentation slide supplied by the Riken Center for Computational Sciences. Red is a loosely fitted non-woven mask. Green is a fitted non-woven mask. Green and brown are a non-woven mask with a polyurethane one on top. The bar graph illustrates the "droplet collection efficiency". The blue bar shows the results of wearing loose-fit non-woven (surgical) mask. while red shows a fitted non-woven mask, and purple shows a fitted non-woven mask plus polyurethane mask.

“Wearing two masks does not make them twice as effective but only slightly more so,” Tsubokura added cited by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

Wearing one nonwoven mask is enough, and make sure it is put on properly without leaving a gap between the fabric and the nose.”

As JapanToday notes, the findings in part contradict recent recommendations from the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that two masks were better than one at reducing a person's exposure to the coronavirus.

So if two masks don't work, proven by a Japanese supercomputer, then what is the underlying agenda by US government officials who parade themselves around media outlets touting double making is "common sense"?

LGBT Propaganda Targets Toddlers

They won’t let your kids read Dr Seuss books, because he has been sentenced to cancelation. No worries; a few books for children meet with liberal approval — like The GayBCs, by M. L. Webb.

Watch in horror and sadness as moonbattery is mainlined directly into a preschooler’s brain before it has had a chance to form:

This is one book that won’t get banned by Amazon for thoughtcrime.

If toddlers have to be introduced to homosexuality, let’s inject a little realism. “A” should be for “anal cancer,” “H” for “HIV/AIDS,” “I” for “incontinence,” “P” for “psychiatric problems,” “R” for “rectal prolapse,” et cetera.

Racine alderman charged with felony for allegedly fleeing from police; plans to plead not guilty

From The Journal Times.com:

RACINE — The Racine City Council member who has been accused of drunken driving and attempting to speed away from Caledonia Police Department officers who were attempting to pull him over was in court on Thursday for his first appearance.

Edwin Santiago, 35, plans to plead not guilty to felony fleeing/eluding an officer. According to a criminal complaint, he denied at the scene that he was speeding in excess of 80 mph as was alleged, that he wasn’t trying to outrun police, and that he had not had a drink in several hours despite failing field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showing he was above the limit.

In Wisconsin, anyone convicted of a felony cannot hold public office. As such, if convicted, Santiago would have to give up his seat, representing Racine’s Fourth District.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on March 18. Attorney Patrick Cafferty represented the defendant in court.

The criminal complaint

The Racine County District Attorney’s Office filed the criminal complaint associated with the case on March 3.

According to the criminal complaint, Sgt. Michael Trongeau of the Caledonia Police Department first observed the vehicle being driven by Santiago headed south on Douglas Avenue at 1:27 a.m. on Feb. 20 near Saint Rita’s Road, just south of Four Mile Road.

Using the in-squad moving radar, Trongeau clocked Santiago’s vehicle traveling at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone, at which point Trongeau reported that he turned his vehicle “around to go after the subject vehicle.”

The officer indicated he observed Santiago “change lanes without signaling in front of another southbound vehicle.”

“The subject vehicle appeared to have greatly increased its speed and was pulling away from (Trongeau) and the other vehicle at an astounding rate,” the criminal complaint noted. The sergeant advised dispatch of the potential that a vehicle was fleeing, at which point he activated his lights and sirens.

According to the complaint, Santiago’s vehicle “did not react in any way” to the lights and sirens and was then traveling at approximately 80 mph in a 35 mph zone; Trongeau indicated he reached 84 mph while pursuing Santiago.

Mass shootings surge in Wisconsin as nation faces record high

From JSOnline:
Marco della Cava
and
Mike Stucka
USA TODAY NETWORK

Mass shootings in Wisconsin increased to 10 in 2020 from three the year before, while nationally mass shootings jumped nearly 50% during a pandemic with crippling unemployment, violent protests and idle youth.

In 2020, Wisconsin reported 10 mass shootings that killed 11 and injured 42. A year earlier, the state had three mass shootings that killed five and injured 10.

Among Wisconsin's deadliest shootings last year was the Molson Coors shooting Feb. 26, which killed six including the gunman. The state's bloodiest shootings included the shooting at Mayfair mall on Nov. 20, which injured eight.

With COVID-19 cases falling and vaccines rolling out, some criminologists hope a rebounding economy and reopened schools will drive down the national numbers in 2021.

Early results are promising, says Mark Bryant, founder of the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, which tracks gun incident trends. In the first seven weeks of this year, there have been 63 mass shootings — defined as four or more people injured or killed in one incident — which if continued would show a drop from 2020, he said.

“I’m hoping last year proves to be the anomaly,” said Bryant. “The stresses caused by last year, from jobs to illness, were not just an urban thing or a rural thing. We saw bumps in towns in Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as in Chicago and Philadelphia.”

Other experts warn that reducing mass shootings across the United States will require more than simply putting the pandemic in the rearview mirror.

Foxconn's plan to make robotic coffee kiosks quietly died. It joins the list of products promised but never made.

From JSOnline:
Ricardo Torres
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The first product coming out of the Foxconn Technology Group facility in Mount Pleasant was supposed to be robotic coffee kiosks. But the coffee kiosks — along with ventilators and large LCD screens — join the list of products that were promised for the massive site, but never delivered.

The high-tech coffee machines were announced in September 2019 with considerable fanfare.

Foxconn Industrial Internet, a subsidiary of Foxconn, said it had entered into a partnership with Briggo Coffee to produce its Coffee Haus kiosk, which customers can find at the San Francisco International Airport.

At the time, Kevin Nater, CEO and co-founder of Briggo, said Foxconn Industrial Internet provides the company "the scale and speed necessary to revolutionize the global specialty coffee market."

Then-president of the Foxconn division, Foo-Ming Fu said that "adding Briggo to our customer portfolio, we now have the opportunity to produce a cutting-edge, cloud-based, robotic retail platform through smart manufacturing capabilities needed to support their aggressive growth plans.”

But the deal with Foxconn never came together.

In May 2020, Briggo was bought by Coca-Cola. By then, the Foxconn coffee deal was long dead.

Walgreens shutters 10 stores in San Francisco as residents point to rampant shoplifting

Pharmacy giant Walgreens has closed its 10th store in the San Francisco area, prompting residents to blame rampant shoplifting caused by the city's soft-on-crime policies.

The store is set to permanently shut its doors on March 17, and the move has drawn an online petition against the closure, which accrued over 200 signatures at the time of publishing. The closure is the third since mid-October 2020, and those living in the area reported brazen thefts at Walgreens pharmacies throughout their hometowns.

“All of us knew it was coming. Whenever we go in there, they always have problems with shoplifters, ” a regular customer, Sebastian Luke, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

One October incident was caught on video as Inside Edition reporters were following a story on the rampant larcenies. A thief, donning black clothing, was seen on video scaling a counter, grabbing an air vent, and leaving the store on a scooter as shelves in the store were left bare from similar sprees.

“I feel sorry for the clerks, they are regularly being verbally assaulted,” Luke said. “The clerks say there is nothing they can do. They say Walgreens’ policy is to not get involved. They don’t want anyone getting injured or getting sued, so the guys just keep coming in and taking whatever they want.”

At the time, Walgreens declined to provide a reason for the store closures but indicated “the safety of our team members and customers is our top concern.” The drug store chain did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

When a store employee was asked about why the shelves were empty, he said, “Go ask the people in the alleys, they have it all.”

One store in the San Francisco area reportedly lost $1,000 a day to theft, and some have pointed to the city's homeless as a potential culprit. Law enforcement at the time responded by stationing uniformed officers near the businesses, but the move didn't last, and officers were quickly pulled away from the post.

The San Francisco Police Department told the Washington Examiner that it is "aware of incidents of retail theft there where groups of suspects enter stores, grab product and merchandise and flee," and insisted "larceny crimes are down significantly" in the city and "officers routinely check in with merchants."

Communist China now controls America’s energy grid, thanks to Biden

(Natural News) During his first week “in office,” Hunter’s dad, also known as Joe Biden, issued multiple executive orders that effectively hand over control of America’s energy grid to communist China.

EO 13990, which purports to be about “climate change,” contains questionably anomalous verbiage that suspends a key security measure put in place by President Donald Trump last May. For the next 90 days, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will have full access to the United States power grid.

EO 13920, which was signed by Trump and overridden by Biden, declared an official national emergency concerning the nation’s electric grid. It prohibited all acquisition or installation of:

“… any bulk-power electric equipment … designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by persons owned by, controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction of a foreign adversary.”

In other words, Trump blocked adversary nations like China from having any influence over our nation’s power grid, which Biden quickly reversed upon being “inaugurated.”

Trump’s EO was timely because just last year the U.S. seized a Chinese-built transformer because officials believed “its electronics had been secretly given malicious capabilities, possibly allowing a distant adversary to monitor or even disable it on command.”

Cybersecurity expert Joseph Weiss reported that officials found “electronics that should not have been part of the transformer,” describing them as “hardware backdoors” for foreign adversaries like China to “effectively gain control of the transformers without any network forensics being the wiser.”

China makes COVID-19 anal swabs mandatory for foreigners

From New York Post:

China has made anal COVID-19 swabs mandatory for all foreign travelers arriving in the country, a report said Wednesday.

The government has claimed that such tests provide a higher degree of accuracy than other screening methods for the virus, the Times UK reported.

As part of the new travel requirement, there will be testing hubs in Beijing and Shanghai airports, the outlet reported.

Li Tongzeng, a respiratory disease medic, said the anal swabs are better because virus traces stay in fecal samples longer than they do in the nose or throat, state media reported.

The move comes after Japan asked China to stop performing the exams on its citizens when they enter the country because the swabs cause mental anguish.

“Some Japanese reported to our embassy in China that they received anal swab tests, which caused a great psychological pain,” Katsunobu Kato, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary, told a news conference.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, however, defended the screenings as “science-based.”

The tests are “in accordance with the changes in the epidemic situation as well as relevant laws and regulations,” he said.

LA Teachers' Union Under Fire For Effort To Racially Classify Critics

From ZeroHedge:
Tyler Durden's Photo
BY TYLER DURDEN
THURSDAY, MAR 04, 2021 - 15:25

Authored by Jonathan Turley,

United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) is under fire after Maryam Qudrat, a mother of Middle Eastern descent, was asked by the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) to identify her race after criticizing the union’s opposition to reopening schools despite overwhelming science that it is safe. The response of the UTLA was evasive to the point of incomprehension. However, the controversy is fueled by recent efforts to portray parents demanding a return to school as racist or examples of white privilege, including recent controversial comments from the UTLA President.

Qudrat was contacted by the UTLA after she spoke out against the opposition to resuming classes in Los Angeles. She has a seventh-grade child and has been calling for the union to follow the science. Instead, they contracted her with an email from a union research who noted that she has been quoted twice by the LA Times in eight months and the union wants to know her race. The email notes that her name sounds Iranian but the researcher does not want to assume her race with a “legitimate method.”

The concern however is why the union is trying to racially classify critics. The fact that Qudrat was quoted twice in the LA Times would not yield any broader demographic information on the range of parents who want their kids back in school. Instead, the email is intimidating when opposition to the closings is being used by some to claim racism. That issue arose recently with the public statements of UTLA President:

“Some voices are being allowed to speak louder than others. We have to call out the privilege behind the largely White wealthy parents driving the push for a rushed return. Their experience of this pandemic is not our students’ families’ experiences.”

Myart-Cruz has also criticized “Middle Eastern” parents in joining “white parents” in seeking school re-openings, and condemned the plan, calling it “a recipe for propagating structural racism,” Politico reported.

“We are being unfairly targeted by people who are not experiencing this disease in the same ways as students and families are in our communities,” UTLA President Cecily Mart-Cruz said at a press conference on Monday.

“If this was a rich person’s disease, we would’ve seen a very different response. We would not have the high rates of infections and deaths.”

“Now educators are asked instead to sacrifice ourselves, the safety of our students and the safety of our schools,” Mart-Cruz complained.

In response to the latest controversy, UTLA issues this statement:

“The email in question is from a UTLA researcher who was attempting to ascertain the race of individuals quoted in order to assess whether or not that is a factor we could evaluate. This outreach by the researcher was not authorized and nothing from that outreach is contained in the report. We understand this type of email could be taken out of context.”

What exactly does that mean? The researcher was working for UTLA “to ascertain the race of individual quoted in order to assess whether or not this is a fact we could evaluate.” Read that over a couple of times.  “Assess whether . . . we could evaluate”? Moreover, what are you evaluating? This sounds more like opposition research. What would it matter is the small number of people quoted in a newspaper have a particular ethnic background? It would not establish the make up of families holding that position. While the union says “we understand this type of email could be taken out of context,” it does not explain the context or purpose. It does not deny that it was researching the race of anyone who opposes the union effort to keep the schools closed.

In reality, there are many minority parents who have spoken out about the need to re-open and the science is clear on the issue. Indeed, it was clear when the Trump Administration was pushing for re-opening last year despite ads calling such efforts “attempted murder” before the election.

Obviously, the claims of racism from the UTLA will chill other parents from speaking out. Indeed, we recently discussed a leading researcher who stopped his work on Covid-19 due to threats and harassment for showing minimal risk from school openings. That is the “context” that many of us are concerned about when reading this email.

*  *  *

PJMedia's Tyler O'Neil asks California’s largest teachers union is holding ten percent of the state’s public school kids hostage in exchange for what, exactly? Perhaps more money, more benefits, more peace of mind? If teachers unions like UTLA wish to convince Americans that public school is as important as they have preached for decades, why are they fighting tooth-and-nail against a toothless reopening plan when keeping schools closed will wreak havoc on the very children they claim to serve?

While Marxist critical race theory teaches that American society is bedeviled with hidden “structural racism” that requires brainwashing or revolutionary action to erase, and while this noxious ideology is spreading further in American society, parents are unlikely to fall for the unions crying “structural racism.”

When a member of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School Board compared school reopenings to slavery, her fellow board members snickered.

“I am Hispanic… I am Hispanic and I have four adopted children. We look like the U.N.,” Minerva Martinez Scott, a Hispanic board member, responded to the CRT proponent. “And my child has been affected by not being in school. My kid is in a facility because he had a hard time not being in school.”

At some point, Gavin Newsom is going to have to put his foot down and force teachers to do their jobs. If he doesn’t, the people of California will recall him and replace him with someone who will. That effort is already underway.
