Wisconsin DNR issues an air quality advisory due to smoke from Canadian wildfires

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory until noon Sunday.

Smoke from wildfires in Canada was in Minnesota Friday and moved into Wisconsin overnight, according to the DNR. Officials expect the smoke plume to mostly impact the northern half of the state.

A second smoke plume will then come in behind a cold front Saturday afternoon. DNR officials expect it to move from the north to the south across the state.

Elevated fine particle concentrations are expected to make air quality unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the DNR. People in these groups include children, elderly people, people with respiratory and cardiac problems and anyone doing strenuous outdoor activities for a long period.

People in sensitive groups should limit their time outdoors.
