I was contacted by these scammers yesterday.  The man who spoke to me could barely speak English and the background noise from the call center was overwhelming.  I hung up on them.

N.Y. lawmaker wants to give communities power over problematic auto shops

Unfortunately, many auto repair shops are owned and operated by swine.  I know of two honest mechanics in Racine.  One is honest to all of his customers. The other is honest to his friends.  I ran an auto repair shop in Chicago.  I know the scams, though we never would have kept a car for moths or even years.  That's insane.

BBB: Fake Wisconsin COVID testing site reported

From Fox6Now:

The Better Business Bureau is warning the public to keep an eye out for COVID-19 testing scams.

The BBB is looking into a recent report of a possible fake testing site in Wisconsin. Similar reports have come out of California, Kentucky and Florida.

Before heading to a testing site or buying a kit online, the BBB recommends doing your research. That means checking reviews online and calling ahead to see who is running the site.

"As the pandemic wears on, scammers are going to take advantage of the next steps. Be vigilant be aware know what’s going on and always keep your financial and personal information safe," said Tiffany Schultz, Wisconsin BBB regional director.

If you come across anything suspicious, the BBB asks that you report it online at BBB.org/scamtracker.

Proof of vaccination required, but who enforces the rule?

From WISN12ABC:

The FBI has warned against buying or making a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.

Milwaukee World Festival Inc. announced that a COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID-19 test result will be required to attend Summerfest in September.

But who gets to enforce the new rules?

The FBI has warned against buying or making a fake COVID-19 vaccination card.

"I think it's more safer for everybody," Scott Mastos said Tuesday. "Then I know they'll be here -- the band and all that."

Another woman buying tickets for Chris Stapleton was also pleased.

"Even though it's outside, I would feel safer, absolutely," she said.

The annual music festival's move followed Chicago's Lollapalooza rules.

But it also opens the door to fraud.

The FBI warned buying or selling fake cards was a felony.

That's why consumer groups like the Better Business Bureau are also on alert.

"We know the vaccination cards are quite simple, they're easy to replicate but I think what's important to remember is that the CDC has an official seal on that card so duplicating it opens up a world of trouble," said Lisa Schiller of the Wisconsin BBB.

Summerfest officials said they were not yet ready to discuss how workers would spot a fake COVID-19 vaccine card before a fan was allowed through the gates.

Milwaukee's Health commissioner said she was hoping anyone falsifying vaccine cards would be the minority.

"Certainly I think that is a concern," Kirsten Johnson said. "I'm hopeful that people would rather just get tested than take the time to create a fake vaccine card."

The health department told WISN 12 they are not aware of any other complaints regarding fake vaccine cards.

Summerfest will take place Sept. 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18 in Milwaukee.
