"US ATTORNEY PREET BHARARA ISSUES CHALLENGE TO PUBLIC"

From Racine Community Media:

"GET INVOLVED AND STOP CORRUPTION WHICH IS ROTTING AWAY THE FOUNDATIONS OF OUR SOCIETY."

"U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara recently issued a challenge to the public — which means you, dear reader — to get involved in the battle against a deep corruption that is rotting away the foundations of our society.

"Send emails to spread the word about sketchy behavior. Write letters to this and other newspapers. Send a few pennies to good-government groups like Citizens Union that keep an eye on things. Go to political forums and demand candidates promise to blow the whistle on corruption even if it doesn’t directly involve them.

"Above all, teach your children that it’s not enough to not be a crook; in a democracy, keeping government and markets honest is everybody’s business.

"Which brings us back to you, dear reader. Each time you wearily dismiss the latest indictment or corruption charge as the unchangeable, routine state of affairs in government, you’re contributing to a culture that tolerates corruption.

“It doesn’t matter how loud someone blows the whistle if the referees are wearing earplugs.”

"Citizenfour Official Trailer 1 (2014) - Edward Snowden Documentary HD"

"CITIZENFOUR is the never before seen, utterly riveting first-person look at how director Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald first met with whistleblower Edward Snowden in Hong Kong where he gave them documents showing widespread abuses of power by the National Security Administration. It is an unprecedented fly-on-the-wall account of one of the most groundbreaking moments in recent history.

"In January 2013, Poitras (recipient of the 2012 MacArthur Genius Fellowship and co-recipient of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service) was several years into making a film about surveillance in the post-9/11 era when she started receiving encrypted e-mails from someone identifying himself as 'citizen four,' who was ready to blow the whistle on the massive covert surveillance programs run by the NSA and other intelligence agencies. In June 2013, she and Greenwald flew to Hong Kong for the first of many meetings with the man who turned out to be Snowden. She brought her camera with her. The film that resulted from this series of tense encounters is absolutely sui generis in the history of cinema: a 100% real-life thriller unfolding minute by minute before our eyes."

"Life in a Police State"

From Racine In Ruins:

"So there I was checking the social media sites and Boom, parts of a puzzle started to come together.

"More checking from Web Sites and more came together.

"Early this morning and more checking reading and well folks please be careful you are over 18 do what you will I do not care.

"I do care that under Mayor John Dickert’s Police State he has the power not only to get the same information as I do but faster and in far more detail. With the RICO going on and his reelection coming up my guess is he has P.I.’s at his beck and call.

"With I think an enemies list far greater then Nixon had and a unforgiving nature everything you do or say will be gathered and used to hurt you or others if he can do so .

"We should recall what has been done in the City before bringing us to My Talk with  Ms Chainsaw talked for sometime with a Racine activist that I call Chainsaw we spoke of Gary Becker and thought crimes how Computers can be hacked in so many ways what might someone who hated Gary (and many did.)  could do if this person was somehow able to gain access to a computer via a hacked password what fun they would have how much of a living Hell they could put him in

"Even as I type this what say our Vindictive Mayor could do with a bit of cash + pals with advance knowledge of Computers could do to someone he hated.

"As for me, being old fat poor no young hot babe is going to come on to me without being drunk or high if any do like was done before I will RUN not walk away. Your wife may not mind but I be well sad to say Dog Food.  I know better.

"Be careful out there change your passwords use PGP in your emails If I have an idea of your Kink IMHO the Mayor sure knows and will act on it if he can"

The Lunar Ecplise

Kinda thought that Hale-bopp would post a fabulous photo of the lunar eclipse here on the JTI, but due to the weather conditions down in Arizona prevented him from getting any snapshots. In the few minutes before I had to leave for work, I stepped outside of my apartment to snap a few personal pics with my trusty Sony DSC-H2 camera. I was able to get great views on the way to work.

For the those who didn't see the eclipse and missed Tender Heart's post on Facebook, here are a couple of photos.....

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my esteemed readers!  How are you?  The colors outdoors and in the pictures that Ms. Tender Heart Bear posted below are stark reminders of fall.  Darn it.  The colors are pretty, but I’d trade them for more heat.  I’d pay $100 for a box of Girl Scout cookies (Thin Mints), if it guaranteed no winter, or less winter than usual.  Unfortunately, we know I can’t do that.  I don’t have the money and I’m not that stupid.  I grew up when words still meant something.

My friends and local gardeners did pretty well.  I think the worst I’ve heard about here equals about average output.  “If only it was a little warmer.” Yes, that big, old lake affects weather all us around and in it.  It’s almost always “cooler by the lake.”  Such areas are called microclimates and often allow you to grow things that a person out in the country couldn’t.  And vice-versa.

It seems like a rip-off because summer stayed cool.  Also, is it a harbinger of a cold winter?  The Weather Witch isn’t talking.

What is sure is that our kings of the field, the Green Bay Packers, spanked the butts and kicked the asses of the Minnesota Vikings.  Now, after ten days off (not good in my book), our valiant Packers will meet the Miami Dolphins at noon on Sunday, October 12, at the Dolphins, coverage by FOX.

I’m going with my beloved Packers; I just have to.  Go Pack!

Thank you all for your advice.  And thank you for caring bout me.

Thank you all for helping.

Fall Colors Pt 2!

It has been really slow with trying to get pictures of the Fall colors. I am trying to find some really nice pictures to share with you but it is hard because some trees are turning brown with dead leaves and they are by the trees that are just starting to turn different colors. I really don't want to share pictures like that with everyone. Here are some pictures that I did get over the weekend-

This picture was taken at Borzynski's Farm on Washington Ave in Mount Pleasant Wi.

This picture was taken on Miller Rd. in Honey Creek Wi.

This picture was taken at White Water College in White Water Wi.

This picture was taken at White Water College in White Water Wi.

This picture was taken at Johnson Park in Caledonia Wi.

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures and I am hoping to get more pictures to share with everyone. Next weekend we are going up north and hopefully the Fall colors are still up there to get a lot of nice pictures to share with everyone. Have a great day!

Useless Information

Did you know:

The "S" on Superman's clothing does not stand for Superman.

On the plant where he comes from the "S" stands for Hope.

"Your Zoo is a jail."

From Racine Community Media:

"One Racine child’s review of his recent visit to the Racine Zoo."

I can't take watching those magnificent animals pacing back and forth in their cages.

Local Loyalty - Pepi's Pub and Grill

Good morning and welcome back!
Today, I want to introduce you to

618 6th Street, Racine.
Just east of the roundabout on the north side of the road.

Also check them out
Open Monday thru Saturday 11am-"bar close",
with the kitchen open Mon - Sat. 11am-midnight.
Summemr hours include Sunday's noon-9,
opening earlier during football season.
I had a nice visit and interview with Joe, who, with his sister, own and operate Pepi's. They were on Main Street in late '05/early '06. They've been in their current location on 6th street for 4 years. It's comfortable and homey. With lots of bar games, pinball, arcade games, foosball, air hockey, pool tables and more!
When I asked how he would describe his place, he said it's like a "high class dive bar with fast, casual dining"
Pepi's also sponsors many leagues.
His goal is to expand to have an outdoor area.
They have 24 American draft taps, rotating seasonally.
Every 1st Friday of the month, they feature a brewery, where a rep comes out and you can learn more about them.
More things he wants you to know -
They have the best bloody Mary's in town.
They have the largest cider selection, and have gluten free options. There are 2 dedicated gluten free cider lines, and their beer lines are cleaned and sanitized every 2 weeks.

The food is good, the atmosphere is welcoming and Joe is a wonderful host.
In a 1st for me, he came up with 4, not just 3 words!

1. Clean
2. Entertaining
3. Uniquely familiar (think Cheers)
4. Welcoming.
If you're in the area, stop in and check them out, don't forget to let them know you saw it here!!

R.I.P. - Paul Revere

"Paul Revere, Leader of the Raiders Rock Band, Dies at 76"

"Paul Revere, the organist and leader of the Raiders rock band, has died. He was 76. Roger Hart, manager for Paul Revere and the Raiders, said he died Saturday at his home in Garden Valley, Idaho, from cancer. 'He'd been quiet about it for some time,' Hart said. Treated at the Mayo Clinic, Paul stayed on the road as long as he could, then retired recently back to Idaho, where he and his wife, Sydney, always kept a home."
