Walker is at it again

I bitch about polotics but I have to question this one:

Walker’s new budget proposal would slash $300 million from the University of Wisconsin system over the next two years. That’s a 13 percent reduction in state funding.

$300 mil sounds like a lot of money but over 2 years is it really that bad? I know we are dumping a lot of cash into the UW System and I would like to know where the dollars go. I have the feeling people look at the UW System as the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The system is all over the state, Milwaukee, Parkside, La Crosse, Green Bay, Whitewater, Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Eau Claire, just to name a few of the larger ones. The UW educates approximately 180,000 students on 26 campuses, and serves more than one million citizens through statewide extension programs

It seems like it's harder and harder for kids to get INTO college yet the colleges are yelling "Gimme dat money"; for what. I believe Asswipe...sorry, Walker screwed over Racine's school system.

I feel every kid who graduated from high school, has the right to go to college. You don't need to pass SAT or what ever tests they have out there to get in. You have one semester to make the grade or your out, come back next year.

So am I wrong thinking this reduction may be good? Is Walker doing this just to 'toot his horn' while he makes a run at the Presidency?

I guess if I know the answers to many of these questions I would run for President, well Governor.

I will punt on that one.

One thing I learned quickly in college is that there are no babysitters there to force you to do your homework. My friends dropped like flies the first two years.

I don't even want to mention W's name. Things are that polarized politically.

If cuts were made in certain areas, it probably wouldn't hurt. UW has always been a cash cow. I think UW-Parkside (my alma mater) is gorgeous. That's all tax dollars up there.

I know how much you will like this, BUT I think ALL sport programs should be REMOVED from HIGHER education, such as The UW system. YES, It generated money, but It doesn't generate enough EDUCATION, which was the object In the first place. I truly mean this, and the same should be done regarding Middle, and High Schools. It's all nonsense.

We all benefit from the medical and other research that comes out of UW Madison. We benefit from the world class educated workforce and potential future Wisconsin taxpayers that come from our smaller educational institutions.

These cuts, in my opinion, are for his benefit (toot, toot presidency run), not the general benefit of taxpayers. Are you aware that this is the first year ever, that out-of-state students outnumber in-state students at our finest college? We are paying for this school in taxes, but our kids can't get in, as out of state students pay more and the system needed that additional income to stay afloat.

Along with the huge UW system cut, there is also another hidden 127 million more cuts to K-12. This is short term thinking. Long term, we are in a heap of problems. This governor has done more to put education in jeopardy than ever in our state. He even tried to sneakily change "the Wisconsin way"' wording so that his agenda could go even further.

Let me ask you... are you all enjoying your average $11 worth of tax cuts? Was it worth the huge sacrifice made by our hard working teachers, police, fire and EMT workers?

Be informed. Don't just accept that your taxes will go down because that is what is told to you.
