The boyfriend of a paraplegic woman in West Milwaukee has been charged with two felonies after allegedly causing her to get evicted from her home after stealing her money and neglecting her so much she was hospitalized for weeks to treat bed sores.

Daniel C. Stanford, 24, of West Milwaukee has been charged with forgery and recklessly subjecting an at-risk individual to abuse.

He faces up to 18 and a half years in prison if convicted, according to online court
documents. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

According to the criminal complaint:

The victim, a woman who became a paraplegic after a car accident in 2010, said Stanford was her live-in boyfriend and doubled as her professional financial assistant for her healthcare.

She told investigators that over a six-month period, Stanford neglected many of his duties as the woman’s primary caretaker. He failed to regularly rotate her to avoid bed sores, change the dressing on her wounds frequently enough, conduct motion exercises for her legs and provide her with proper nutrition and cleanliness.
