Brett Favre's rise and fall is focus of Netflix upcoming sports documentary series

From JSOnline:

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has a legacy that puts him among the greatest of all time on the football field.

Off the field, including in his post-playing days, his legacy is much more complicated and controversial.

Netflix, in partnership with sports media company Front Office Sports, will chronicle the rise and fall of the football legend in "The Fall of Favre."

The one-hour feature, as part of Netflix's "Untold" sports documentary series, will air on the streaming service May 20.

The feature will discuss the harassment allegations levied against Favre during his one season with the New York Jets by a team host as well as the welfare scandal that he has been embroiled in over the last several years.

Front Office Sports said the feature showcases "the womanizing, hard-partying QB whose secrets were fiercely protected in provincial Green Bay."

Favre spent 16 years with the Packers, where he won three MVPs and led the team to the Super Bowl after the 1996 season.

When Favre played for the Jets after his run in Green Bay, team host Jenn Sterger alleged he harassed her in 2008. The NFL found that Favre didn't violate its workplace conduct policy, though the quarterback admitted to sending Sterger voicemails.

Favre, who retired from the NFL after the 2010 season, has also been linked to a fraud scheme in his home state of Mississippi that dates several years. State funds totaling $77 million for needy families were allegedly used to pay for other projects, including those that Favre advocated for, like a volleyball facility at Southern Mississippi.

Favre hasn't been charged with a crime and has denied any wrongdoing.

He has said in the past that his name has been "unjustly smeared in the media." In 2023, Favre sued sports TV personalities Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee for defamation, as well as Mississippi State Auditor Shad White.

Mississippi also sued Favre in a civil case that sought to recover misspent welfare money.

Favre, according to Netflix and Front Office Sports, declined to be interviewed for the feature.

Hall of Fame ex-Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will join former President Donald Trump at his event in Green Bay on Wednesday, according to the campaign.

Favre will be a special guest speaker at the event that will take place less than a week before the Nov. 5 election in which Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris are each vying for the White House.

Trump and Favre are expected to make remarks at the Resch Center in the Green Bay suburb of Ashwaubenon.

The candidates and their campaigns are each crisscrossing this critical swing state in the final days before the election. Trump will also be in Milwaukee next week while Harris will hold a rally in Madison.

Favre played 20 years in the NFL.

More:How old is Brett Favre? What to know about the former Packers quarterback, his Parkinson's diagnosis, concussions, welfare scandal

He was known as an ironman during his career, starting an NFL-record 321 consecutive games across 18½ seasons from 1992 to 2010.

He began his career with the Atlanta Falcons before being traded to the Packers in his second year, a transaction that changed the course of the organization. He became the first player in NFL history to win three straight MVP awards and turned the Packers into a perennial contender. Favre led Green Bay to a Super Bowl title after the 1996 season, its first in 35 years, and another Super Bowl appearance in 1997.

The Packers traded him to the New York Jets after he came out of retirement in 2008. He spent one season there before playing the final two years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Favre, 55, announced last month that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a movement disorder that affects the nervous system.

Favre suffered numerous concussions during his playing career.

He announced the diagnosis during testimony at a congressional committee meeting about the misuse of federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds in Mississippi.

Favre, a native of Mississippi, is embroiled in the scandal but has not been charged with a crime. He has denied wrongdoing.

How many concussions did Brett Favre have during his NFL career?

From JSOnline:

Christopher Kuhagen
Milwaukee Journal Sentine

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre suffered numerous concussions throughout his 20-year NFL career, and it's easy to draw a line between those injuries and the Parkinson's disease diagnosis that he revealed Tuesday.

While the causes for Parkinson's are largely unknown, a 2020 study revealed a link between concussions and brain and neurological diseases like Parkinson's and dementia. The study by the Family Medicine and Community Health noted that having a single concussion increased the risk of developing Parkinson's by 57% and dementia by 72%.

Here's what we know about Favre's concussion history in the NFL:

How many concussions did Brett Favre have during his NFL career?

In a 2018 interview on "Megyn Kelly Today," Favre said he had "three or four" concussions that he was aware of during his playing career but estimated the actual total to be much higher.

Favre added: "As we’re learning about concussions, there’s a term that’s often used in football and other sports. ... I got dinged. As Doctor (Bennet) Omalu, who was portrayed by Will Smith in the movie 'Concussion,' explained, 'dinged' is a concussion when you have ringing of the ears, seeing stars. That’s a concussion and, if that’s a concussion, I’ve had hundreds, probably thousands throughout my career, which is frightening."

How old is Brett Favre?

Brett Favre is 54. He turns 55 on Oct. 10. Parkinson’s disease usually starts around age 50 or older, the Mayo Clinic says.

Who is the most hated person associated with the NFL?

It isn't the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown, though he came in second. It also isn't longtime New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. (He came in third).

semi-scientific Twitter study found our very own Aaron Rodgers to be the most despised person in the NFL.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback has made national headlines on and off the field for the past year. In return, that generated a lot of buzz on Twitter.

According to BetOnline's staff who conducted the study, the conclusion was derived after more than a million tweets were analyzed by keyword association.

"Negative phrases such as "I hate Aaron Rodgers," "Antonio Brown sucks," "F**ck Roger Goodell," "Cam Newton is horrible," etc. were included in the study that spanned the month of December," Stuff Media Group said in a statement. " January and February were not included so the findings wouldn't be swayed by the playoff participants."

Rodgers had 266,850 negative tweets about him during the month of December. That is more than double the amount Brown had in second place. Brown had 107,379 negative tweets.

Non-players also made the top 20, including Roger Goodell, Jackson Mahomes, Dan Snyder, Robert Kraft, and Brittany Matthews.

MILWAUKEE — Engaged couple Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley are breaking up after almost two years together, according to reports from TMZ and originally reported by the website In Touch Weekly.

In Touch cited multiple unnamed sources. Rodgers and Woodley have not confirmed anything so far.

Actress Woodley and Packers quarterback Rodgers announced they were engaged in February of 2021 on the Tonight Show.

In November the couple made headlines when Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 and confirmed he was not vaccinated for COVID-19. Despite some heat towards Rodgers, Woodley defended him, writing on Instagram people "need to calm the f..k down."

In Touch reports a source told them, “While Shailene is supportive of Aaron’s career, he put football first and they were barely spending any time together... She felt he neglected their relationship. Neither of them was happy.”

A second source told the website, “There were too many obstacles. They’re both adults and decided to part amicably.”

This is breaking news and will be updated shortly.

'Welcome to the Hall of Fame': Former Packers safety LeRoy Butler earns NFL's highest honor

From JSOnline:

GREEN BAY - As LeRoy Butler was trying to rush along his son to take him to school in the morning a couple weeks ago, he heard a knock on the door so loud he thought it might be the police.

As he went to answer the knock he saw who was there and wondered what in the world Charles Woodson was doing at his house.

It wasn’t until Butler opened the door and saw a camera crew and maybe a 25-person delegation that he realized the dream of a lifetime had come true: He was going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Roy Lee, welcome to the Hall of Fame,” said Woodson, a former Packers star who was elected to the Hall last year.

“Don’t play, don’t play,” Butler answered.

“Trust me, you’re in the Hall of Fame,” Woodson said.

And with that, Butler felt none of the cold even though he was standing on his South Milwaukee porch in his stocking feet on a January morning.

“I feel like I stepped outside my body and watched myself,” he said of the moment.

Butler was one of five modern-era candidates and eight total voted into the Hall in the 2022 class that was revealed on the NFL Honors Show on Thursday night. The others were modern-era players Tony Boselli, Sam Mills, Bryant Young and Richard Seymour, along with senior finalist Cliff Branch, coach finalist Dick Vermeil and contributor finalist Art McNally.

Butler was introduced at the Honors show by former teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

"He was the first to leap in Lambeau and one of the fiercest to defend it," Favre said. "An all-decade safety and an All-Pro competitor, an all-time teammate, LeRoy Butler."

NFL MVP: Packers' Aaron Rodgers wins 4th

From Fox6Now:

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the NFL's 2021 MVP at the NFL Honors Thursday night, Feb. 10.

Rodgers has now won the award in back-to-back seasons and four times overall – the second most by one player in NFL history behind only Peyton Manning, who has won the award five times.

In 2021, Rodgers started 16 of 17 possible games for the Packers as they finished with the NFL's top record and clinched the NFC's top playoff seed. In those 16 games, Rodgers threw for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

Rodgers led the NFL in touchdowns per pass attempt, interceptions per pass attempt and passer rating – a metric in which he also led the league for two of his previous three MVP seasons.

In addition to being named the NFL's MVP, Rodgers was named first-team All-Pro for the fourth time in his career and made his 10th Pro Bowl – a record among Packers players

The MVP caps a year dotted with public controversy and tumult for Rodgers.

On April 29, 2021 – the opening night of the 2021 NFL draft – ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers had grown "disgruntled" with the Packers to the point that he would not return.

After much speculation of what would come next, Rodgers arrived in Green Bay for the start of training camp in July. The three-time MVP let it be known publicly that he wanted to have a voice in the decision-making process.

Rodgers became the center of a second media firestorm of the year when it became known that he had not received the COVID-19 vaccine, seeking alternative treatment options instead. His explanation for being "immunized," as he put it, instead of vaccinated against the coronavirus, drew flack. Though he defended his stance on not receiving the vaccine, he made comments that repeated debunked myths surrounding its use.

The Packers lost their lone playoff game to the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field, ending the season and starting the clock on another uncertain offseason for Rodgers.
