Open Blog - Wednesday

One day of work and it's hump day. That's not too bad.

I'll kick this off with my latest tinkering project. I just ordered two Kodak M863 digital cameras from geeks.com (they were on sale for $40). Only an 8 megapixel model, but that should be good for what I want to try.

My goal: Make a 3D camera. Basically, a simple bracket to hold two cameras next to each other to take pictures is all it takes. Take the picture and then use image processing software to assign one to the red and one to the blue, put on your 3D glasses and, presto...a 3D picture. I want to make my bracket so that you can vary the distance between the cameras to increase or decrease the 3D effect.

In other words, look for me to post some 3D pictures of my cats in a few weeks!

You will need to send us the glasses???

I could have saved you a few bucks HB. After about 5 or 6 boilermakers, every picture I look at is in 3D.

Cool idea hale! I think I have some 3-D glasses laying around somewhere. How do you synchronize the shutters?

More grass to mow.

The 3D images I am going to try use the old red/blue 3D glasses. I think the next issue of Playboy with the 3D centerfold is going to include a pair...you can say you are buying it for the glasses!

It's not an original idea...I have seen other people do it. Cameras have just been getting so cheap that I can no longer resist the urge to try.

I have to buy a Playboy Magazine? Will Cosmo have a pair next month? A pair of glasses that is (mind out of the gutter, boys)

We can post 3D pics of the next JTI bash, for that in-your-face perspective.
