In between the excitement and terror of the Foxconn development, is the nagging fear of what all this spending is going to do to Mt. Pleasant property taxes.

With the village having borrowed significantly from the general fund to pay for this year's budget expenses, it would be impossible to keep taxes close to flat even before Foxconn.

Candidate Ram Bhatia, has used his experience as a Gateway Board Trustee since 2005 as a reason to vote for him. Interestingly, the Gateway Board has raised property taxes every single year - except 2014, when the state kicked in a bunch of funding.

If being on the unelected Gateway Board is a qualification, then the fact they have raised taxes year after year is a consideration too.

When budget time rolls around, it's hard to imagine him voting "no" on a property tax hike.

He also voted to authorize tens of millions in Gateway Bonded Borrowing increasing the taxes required for debt service.
