'The Pill' Turns 50

A pill for men? What for? We don't have babies...

I don't take it for granted. I feel very fortunate that this was available to me in my life. Revolutionary is an understatement.

I get very upset when I hear that the pill and contraception should not be available to teens. Why would we want this group to not have the tools that science has made possible to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy?

Education does not promote promiscuity... lack of education and availability only contribute to unwanted pregnancies!

agree with you completely KK, The pill should definitely be available for teens as well, along with much information.

As for a pill for men.. it's exactly as Orbs said.. men don't have babies.. I wouldnt trust a man (not even my husband) to be reliable enough to take a pill everyday.. I know if I end up pregnant it's my body that goes through the changes and that makes me more careful with contraception.. Although men go through many changes and have to adapt I just couldnt trus that they would take it as serious as I would.

Why not I had the thought of a guy telling a gal, "It's okay, I'm on the pill." and envisioned her reaction to that. Even if he was, it's doubtful she'd believe him.

To begin with I think men would lie regarding their taking the pill, and they also are not good at remembering it. For me it was a god-send. My friend gave it to her daughter (just in case) under the excuse of 'regulating her periods". It sure did that. Besides we women have to bear the consequences if 'anything' happened. Also beside the point...why is Milwaukee giving free prostrate exams to anyone..but no free mass exams for breast exams. Just wondering.

KK! DAMN GIRL! WACHYADO WITH YOUR HAIR???

The pill that is 100% effective for a woman is an aspirin held tightly between the knees.

Like KK, I felt very fortunate to have had the pill available. And all the benefits it provided. My gosh, going from 7 days of hell to 4 days of eh.
We sit and preach to our kids about having a good education and giving them the tools they need but yet on this very important subject, to some parents, it's taboo.
It's 2010 and we still have to hear "oh my God, how did this happen?"
As for the men taking a pill, Orbs hit it right on the head. I just don't see it ever happening.

I was being sarcastic in my comment, but it is true. And many men probably would lie.

A long time ago I knew a woman who had terrible, debilitating menstrual cramps, irregular cycles, etc. The pill took care of all that. It was amazing.

Oh, I also believe that contraceptives and information, information, information should be available to teenagers, but that is just my personal opinion.

Don't worry loggy. my hair is shorter, but it is just in braids too... in reference to naughty Mr. D/A's taunting at the last get together. It was a rough night, I think I left my glasses at the bar too.
