"Belle City Man's 'Ship My Pants' Wins Awards"

From Mount Pleasant Patch:

"Sean Burns is a YouTube sensation, and, unless you remember him from Park High School's Class of 1984, you've probably never heard of him.

"Burns and his creative partner Howie Ronay at DraftFCB in Chicago are the creative forces behind Kmart's "Ship My Pants" commercial that caught fire on YouTube. The pair were awarded four Cannes Lions, the very top award in the advertising world, according to a story in The Journal Times.

“'It actually doesn’t get more prestigious than (Cannes),' Burns told the newspaper. 'In recent years it has become the premier advertising award show in the world.'

"'Ship My Pants' has almost 20 million views as of Saturday evening.

"But Burns wasn't finished. He and his team had fun again playing with words for Kmart, bringing "Big Gas Savings" to life earlier this summer. That ad has almost six million views."

Here's a previous blog on this subject, including the video:

Congratulations, Sean Burns!

"PETA: Eating Chicken Wings During Pregnancy Could Affect Baby’s Penis Size"

"PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Eating chicken parts – or, more specifically, chicken wings – could shrink your baby’s man parts.

"At least, that’s what PETA is alleging in advance of the National Buffalo Wing Festival.

"According to a letter from PETA to Drew Cerza, the founder of the festival, 'The latest scientific evidence shows that the sons of pregnant women who consume chicken are more likely to have smaller penises because of a chemical found in the birds’ flesh.'
“'Findings published by the Study for Future Families showed that eating poultry during pregnancy may lead to smaller penis size in male infants,' the letter, from PETA’s Lindsay Rajt, alleges."

This is a subject near and dear to my heart, and groin.  Thank you to Timt49 for submitting the story.  As I told Tim, my mother loved chicken wings.  I can tell.

2) What does Labor Day mean to you?

3) If you were a pro athlete, what sport would you play?

4) What book has made you cry?

Around The Corner

There will be a test on this tomorrow.

The Secret

Two girls discover
the secret of life
in a sudden line of
poetry.

I who don't know the
secret wrote
the line. They
told me

(through a third person)
they had found it
but not what it was
not even

what line it was. No doubt
by now, more than a week
later, they have forgotten
the secret,

the line, the name of
the poem. I love them
for finding what
I can't find,

and for loving me
for the line I wrote,
and for forgetting it
so that

a thousand times, till death
finds them, they may
discover it again, in other
lines

in other
happenings. And for
wanting to know it,
for

assuming there is
such a secret, yes,
for that
most of all.

--Denise Levertov

"Levertov, Denise (24 Oct. 1923-20 Dec. 1997), poet, was born in Ilford, Essex, England, to Paul
Levertoff and Beatrice Spooner-Jones Levertoff; as an adult she reverted to the traditional spelling of her surname. Her father was a Russian Jew who had converted to Christianity in the late nineteenth century, ultimately becoming an Anglican priest. He traced his ancestry back to the founder of a mystical Hasidic sect that had flourished in Russia in the eighteenth century. Denise Levertov's mother was descended from a well-known Welsh mystic named Angel Jones. Levertov grew up feeling what she later described as 'a sense of wonder' at the marvel of creation from the teachings of both of her parents, and although she was not conventionally religious as an adult, her upbringing was undoubtedly the source of a mystical strain underlying much of her poetry."

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my sweltering sweethearts!  How are you?  You better be air conditioned or living in the Arctic.  Please, my dears, don’t take chances in this kind of heat.  Community centers and public buildings are available for relief.  This kind of weather can kill.  If you know of elderly or ill people who don’t have access to air conditioning, please check on them.  Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are real.  Play it safe, educate yourself: http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/heat-wave

Our sultry and stupendous Green Bay Packers lost another preseason game this Friday past, to the Seattle Seahawks.  Oh my.  Is Aaron Rodgers getting enough play time?  How many more injuries will thin their ranks?  What will happen in their last preseason game, tomorrow night?  They play the Kansas City Chiefs in Arrowhead Stadium at 7 p.m.  (How do they get away with that “chiefs” and “arrowhead” stuff?)  Unfortunately, WTMJ 4 is covering the game, which means you’ll have to watch it on Telemundo or over an antenna.  I believe that this blackout has brought a lot of ill will to Time Warner Cable.  I know people who are switching to AT&T or satellite.  How much profit is enough profit for Time Warner Cable?  As much as greed demands?

Welcome, all participants and spectators in the Hot Bike Power Tour that rolls into Racine today!  Live it up and stay “cooler by lake” in Pershing Park.  I trust that Racine has adequate facilities for dealing with this friendly onslaught.  Whoop it up, ladies and gentlemen, the city is yours.  You’ll probably be greeted by Mr. Mayor Dickert on his bicycle soon.

Mr. Mayor was in Kenosha on Sunday to show his support for a casino there.  Why can’t we have one here?  We could turn the Porter’s property into a casino and flatten most of the rest of downtown for parking.  Kewpee’s, of course, would be allowed to stay.  Now that’s real estate wheeling and dealing.  For a consultant’s fee, I would guide the city through the process.  Of course, Mr. Mayor’s friends will want a share of the pie.  This one would be big enough for them and much more.  “Las Vegas on the Lake.”  “Racine Casino Royale.”  Just think of all of the blue-haired ladies addicted to the slots.  It’s what our city needs.

Miss Wisconsin, Racine’s Paula Kuiper, will soon be heading to the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.  Best wishes, my dear.  This past Monday was officially declared Miss Paula Kuiper Day in Mount Pleasant and Racine County.  May she represent us well in the competition.

Thank you, hot stuff, for visiting my blog on a day like today.  I appreciate your loyalty to me and my blog.  Thank you, thank you.  I love the JT Irregulars.

How hot is it?  Find out: madamezoltar@jtirregulars.com

Stay hydrated and in the shade, my lovely friends.  Avoid the heat and sunlight as much as possible.  Once global warming really kicks in, this kind of weather will be considered balmy.  Watch out for bikes.  Fumacious!

Right now at I am at a meeting in San Diego. I was able to hit Sunset Cliffs tonight for sunset (of course!) Nice sunset with a strong mirage and several green flashes breaking off the top. Not going to say much more, just post the pics. IMG_8519IMG_8410IMG_8398IMG_8386IMG_8383IMG_8380IMG_8312

"RAIDERS RACINE SUPREME"

"Raiders win 23rd straight game, Clinch home field throughout playoffs"

"August 25 (RACINE, WIS.) - The Racine Raiders clinched the Southwest Division title and home field advantage throughout the Mid-States Football League playoffs with a convincing 42-24 win over their crosstown rivals, the Racine Threat, in front of a crowd of well over 5,000 people at Historic Horlick Athletic Field in Racine, Wis.
"The Raiders extended the team's winning streak to 23 games dating back to July 2012. It matches the second longest winning streak in team history which spanned the 1994 and 1995 seasons.
"The Raiders ran all over the league's top defense, amassing 251 yards rushing and averaging over five yards per carry. Damonshay Pitt led the way for the Raiders with 89 yards on 11 rushes.
Pitt, filling in for an injured J.R. Taylor, gave teh Raiders the lead late in the third quarter on an electrifying 41-yard run. The Raiders led 29-24 and never looked back.
"Rookie running back Ivry Lashley had 77 yards on 7 touches and touchdown runs of 26 and 5 yards. Taylor finished with 72 yards on 21 carries before injuring his right knee. He is expected to be ready for the Raiders next game against the Muskego Hitmen in two weeks.
"Raiders quarterback Craig McClelland, who had his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown pass end at 20 last week against the Wauwatosa Spartans, threw two touchdowns. McClelland was 10-of-15 for 94 yards with one interception, just his second pick of the season. He threw touchdown passes to Traves Worthington and Sam D'Alie.
"The Raiders, who lost nearly every statistical category last week against Wauwatosa, were in control of the game from the outset despite a couple of bumps in the road where the Threat momentarily took a lead in the game.
"The Raiders had 22 first downs in the game to just 12 for the Threat and outgained the Threat 345 yards to 240 yards. Time of possession was heavily in favor of the Raiders as well. Racine held the ball for over 38 minutes.
"The Raiders have a bye week due to the Labor Day holiday this week but return to action at Historic Horlick Field on September 7, 2013, at 7 p.m. against the Muskego Hitmen. It is the last regular season league home game of the season for the Raiders.

"The Racine Raiders, a 501c(3) not-for-profit organization, begin their 61st season of operations in 2013. The Raiders won their eighth national championship in 2012. Find out more about the Racine Raiders at http://www.racineraiders.com."
