Cafferty said she has spent her career fighting for justice for her clients, who have come from diverse backgrounds, neighborhoods and circumstances.

Droves Of People Fall For 'Blue Check Homes' Hoax

From ZeroHedge:

Tyler Durden's Photo
BY TYLER DURDEN
WEDNESDAY, FEB 03, 2021 - 22:10

A San Francisco artist who mocked Twitter 'blue check' elitism was forced to put a disclaimer on a satirical website, which encouraged 'thought leaders, athletes and famous actors' to apply for a blue "Verified Badge Crest" on the exterior of their homes - letting everyone know how important one is.

In a Friday tweet that immediately went viral, Danielle Baskin announced the new service - and in a matter of hours, had over 40 million impressions and thousands of retweets and likes, according to SFGate

Upon landing on the homepage for bluecheckhomes.com, visitors are prompted to enter their name and all social media accounts that represent you. Then, after qualifying, applicants need only pay a $3,000 fee to let everyone know how special they are.

Those who can apply must be "Homeowners who are prominent executives, thought leaders, influencers, authors, and journalists who represent prominent organizations, including companies, brands, non-profit organizations, and media organizations," along with "Homeowners who are government officials, "Homeowners who are actors with at least 5 production credits on their IMDB profile," and "Homeowners who own entertainment companies, such as film studios, TV networks, and music entities as well as homeowners with public facing roles associated with their productions."

The deadpan satire continues with: " Homeowners who are athletes or on professional esports leagues, and coaches listed on the official team website or who have 3 or more featured references within the 6 months prior to applying in news outlets such as Kotaku, Polygon, or IGN."

Applicants must be willing to provide proof of home ownership.

Apparently so many people fell for the hoax - and didn't catch on to the increasingly absurd qualifications - that Baskin had to add a disclaimer to her website.

"...Baskin, the SF-based artist behind the prank, had no idea the website she crafted to back up the fake service would receive 495 applicants, all hoping for a crest of their own." -SFGate

"I will say a percentage of them are not from a real person. People added, like, Kim Kardashian, and that was clearly a joke," she said, adding "But everyone else thought the website was real. I did what I thought was a mediocre Photoshop job … I thought, ‘This is all very clickbait-y.’ All of the copy, I thought, was so obviously satire."

Now, the website reads:

WTF IS THIS REAL?

For context, I'm an artist who makes random internet jokes that sometimes pokes fun of "let's turn this into a service" culture, internet vanity culture, and terrible capitalist ideas. Historically, decorative crests found on Victorian homes were a mark to signal wealth and importance and I thought it would be dumb if that concept also existed today. But if it existed today, would you need to be verified by a third party to signal status? Here's the origin of the joke.

Yes, I ALSO THINK THE IDEA OF VERIFIED BLUE HOUSE BADGES IS DUMB. I also love to fabricate funny shitposts on a Friday night, but my medium is writing satirical copy for landing pages and creating product launches. I'm also actually a sculptor and would totally make one for someone (IDK about pricing).

If I do make one, it's unlikely anyone walking around outside would react to a blue check mark on someone's house. They will probably never find it.

So is this real? It's somewhere in between real and fake. Anyone can craft something out of plaster. Anyone can apply to be verified. Anyone can make a landing page. Is there an entity involved and is this being rolled out across Bay Area neighborhoods? No.

If you thought this was a full-fledged service, please investigate the things you read on the internet! And if you're an artist making jokes on the internet, we should consider adding disclaimers like this, because not everyone understands your commentary and will share your jokes as fact. 😢

Surreal Video Shows Myanmar Coup Unfolding 'Live' Behind Oblivious Aerobics Instructor

From ZeroHedge:

Tyler Durden's Photo

WEDNESDAY, FEB 03, 2021 - 23:30

In footage that almost has to be seen to be believed, an exercise instructor who regularly leads live-streamed workout routines from public venues inadvertently filmed Monday's military coup as it was underway behind her

The exercise instructor was in the middle of her workout routine just as literally a few hundred meters behind her military trucks sped to take over the nation's capitol complex in Naypyitaw. The video has since gone viral.

The woman has since been identified as Khing Hnin Wai, a physical education teacher with the Ministry of Education who initially posted the video on her Facebook page where it went viral.

In later media interviews she said she had no idea of the historic events then unfolding immediately behind her.

"Before I heard the news... in the morning, the video I made for the aerobic dance competition has become an unforgettable memory," she wrote on Facebook.

In those very moments Myanmar's military (the United States still calls the country Burma), had seized and sealed off all central government buildings after raiding the homes and making arrests of the national civilian leadership, most notably Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Myanmar's governing National League for Democracy (NLD) party, as well as President Win Myint and senior party figures.

The BBC and other outlets have "confirmed the video is real" after some initially questioned its authenticity.

The State Department is now warning of the potential for "civil and political unrest in Burma" following the dramatic military takeover of the country after the army called prior November elections "fraudulent". This as all international travel has been halted, and various communications including internet were cut to the capital.

The Biden administration has now formally declared it as a coup d'état, which means Washington is required by law to cut off all foreign assistance to the southeast Asian country. It further announced that targeted action will be taken "against those responsible" for the arrests and continued detention of the elected civilian leadership, likely in the form of sanctions

German nuns ‘rented’ orphaned boys to businessmen for ‘gang bangs & orgies’ – suppressed report seen by media

A report being withheld from the public documents horrific acts of rape and sexual abuse against young boys that were facilitated by nuns belonging to the Cathoic Archdiocese of Cologne in Germany, according to the Daily Beast.

The investigation’s findings, which concluded last month and stemmed from a lawsuit brought against the archdiocese by victims, have not been publicly released, but the contents of the report are said to have been leaked to several media outlets.

Sections of the 560-page report purportedly seen by the Daily Beast detail how nuns who ran a convent in Speyer, Germany between the 1960s and 1970s “rented” orphaned boys to businessmen and clergy, who abused the children, sometimes for weeks at a time, before ‘returning’ them.

According to the outlet, some of the orphans were forced to participate in “gang bangs and origies” before being returned to the convent where the nuns would discipline them for having “wrinkl[ed] their clothes or being covered in semen.”

The report concluded that 175 children, most of them boys between the ages of 8 and 14, were abused over two decades. Some of the children were intentionally barred from being adopted or taken into a foster home so the nuns could continue to hire them out, the probe allegedly found.

However, the investigation declined to directly blame the nuns involved in the sick scheme, arguing instead that the abuse was the result of “systematic” management errors and the “leniency” accorded to those accused of taking part in the abominable crimes, the Beast reported.

The details were leaked to the press after the archdiocese refused to make the report public, demanding that journalists who viewed the documents sign a confidentiality agreement. All those who attended a press conference announcing the conclusion of the investigation reportedly walked out, refusing to abide by the Church’s terms.

Motor vehicle thefts in Milwaukee are up 152%. Auto repair businesses say the worst may be yet to come

From JSOnline:

James E. Causey
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Every Sunday, Marlon Rockett stops at the BP gas station on South Kinnickinnic Avenue to fill up his wife’s 2017 Nissan Pathfinder.

On Jan. 3, he paid for his gas at the pump and went inside to grab the free soda that came with the fillup. He left the SUV running with the doors locked, his key fob in hand.

When he walked out of the service station, something looked different.

“I looked at where the truck was, and it was gone. I was only in the store for a minute,” said Rockett, 47.

There was no broken glass near the pump, but the gas station security camera told the story.

A black, late-model Lexus pulled up next to Rockett’s SUV seconds after he went inside. A young man exited the car, went up to the driver’s side and was inside the SUV in seconds. When the Lexus pulled away, the SUV was right behind it.

Rockett flagged down a taxi  and cruised the area for 30 minutes, but he didn't find the maroon SUV. It is still missing.

As of Tuesday, 808 vehicles have been stolen in Milwaukee, a 152% increase when compared to the same time in 2020, according to Milwaukee Police Department reports.

This epidemic of car theft, combined with reckless driving and a cadre of young people who have absolutely no fear of consequences has created a crisis in Milwaukee.

What’s scarier: Auto repair companies say they expect things to get worse as young people become more brazen and drive more recklessly.

Nearly 18,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine heading to Wisconsin under federal program launched by Biden administration

From JSOnline:
Mary Spicuzza
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Nearly 18,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be sent to Walgreens locations in Wisconsin starting next week through a federal program announced Tuesday by the Biden administration.

The vaccine will be shipped directly to retail pharmacies in an effort to expedite vaccinations across the country, federal officials said.

That includes 17,800 COVID-19 vaccine doses being sent to 190 Walgreens locations in Wisconsin, Walgreens said.

White House COVID-19 response coordinator Jeff Zients said the program would start with about one 1 million doses sent to 6,500 pharmacies beginning next week. The number of pharmacies could ultimately reach 40,000.

"This will provide more sites for people to get vaccinations in their communities," Zients said. "And it's an important component to delivering vaccines equitably."

Zients said 10.5 million doses will be distributed to states this week, up 5% from last week and a 22% increase in weekly doses since President Joe Biden took office Jan. 20.

How a dozen city workers missed a 4-year-old child in a towed minivan

From JSOnline:
Bruce VielmettiAshley Luthern
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The call seemed routine: A disabled vehicle on the side of a road and a drunken driving arrest.

But somehow everyone who walked around, peeked inside or rifled through the minivan missed a 4-year-old girl, who apparently was out of view in the back of the van, possibly under clothes.

A city worker heard the girl crying for her mother the next morning, Nov. 13, 2018, after she had spent the night in the tow lot, where temperature dropped to 18 degrees.

Then-Police Chief Alfonso Morales suspended two officers in the incident, including one with a history of misconduct allegations who was involved in the arrest of Milwaukee Bucks player Sterling Brown. No other city employees in any department faced discipline.

The girl's mother was convicted of several misdemeanor charges and her family filed a notice of claim against the city, the first step toward a lawsuit that was filed Tuesday.

It Doesn't Fit the Narrative!

TARA READE: I believe AOC when she says she is a survivor of sexual assault. Why could she not say the same about me?

(L) Tara Reade; (R) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez © Getty Images / Taylor Hill / Contributor

The congresswoman’s revelations about her trauma have been unquestioningly believed by the media, yet I could barely get anyone to listen to me when I spoke out. Once again it seems #MeToo only applies when politically convenient.

As I watched AOC’s online discussions about trauma and being afraid for her life at the Capitol building in Washington, DC, I felt compassion and the pain of recognition. I had something dark and life-altering happen to me there. Something that shattered my future until I finally spoke out. In 1993, I thought my career had just really started. I did not know it was the beginning of the end. Joe Biden was my boss and a powerful senator in 1993 when he pushed me against that wall and violated me without my consent.

Last night, I listened to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and felt her pain at the prospect of her life being threatened and the description of her being a survivor of sexual assault. MeToo trended, clunking back to life, sputtering its support after it waved its hypocritical white flag when I stepped up to tell the world what happened to me in 1993.

Instead of support from MeToo and AOC or any other Democrat, I was silenced and shamed for even daring to speak my history. Joe Biden was placed in his present position of commander in chief, and my messy, inconvenient story was shoved under the recesses while the New York Times, Newsweek, and other mainstream media lavished propagandized praise on Joe Biden.

I will not call him President. Respect must be earned, and this man violated me then covered it up and then went to lengths to silence me. To me, Joe Biden will always be that arrogant, insecure man with greasy hair plugs and cold hands who took my innocence in that hallway at the heart of the country's symbol of democracy. Do I believe AOC? Yes.

However, does AOC believe me? On the subject of my assault, she has publicly waffled about my experience being “not clear cut,”so as not to upset the sainted Democratic leadership. Time will tell if AOC truly stands with survivors. Do I believe the Democratic Party uses the MeToo movement as a shield and holds it up only when politically convenient? Absolutely.

Florida Gov. Cracks Down On Big Tech - Lets Residents Sue Over Censorship, $100K Daily Fine For Suspending Political Candidates

From ZeroHedge:

TUESDAY, FEB 02, 2021 - 18:40

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has taken bold action against Big Tech - announcing several measures to counter widespread censorship of conservatives and promote the free exchange of information.

As reported by Breitbart's Allum Bokhari, the measures - announced on Tuesday in a 45-minute speech - include mandatory opt-outs on content filters for Floridians, fines, and grants residents the ability to sue over censorship.

More via Breitbart:

  • Mandatory opt-outs from big tech’s content filters, a solution to tech censorship first proposed by Breitbart News in 2018.
  • A private right of action for Floridian citizens against tech companies that violate this condition.
  • Fines of $100,000 per day levied on tech companies that suspend candidates for elected office in Florida from their platforms.
  • Daily fines for any tech company “that uses their content and user-related algorithms to suppress or prioritize the access of any content related to a political candidate or cause on the ballot.”
  • Greater transparency requirements.
  • Disclosure requirements enforced by Florida’s election authorities for tech companies that favor one candidate over another.
  • Power for the Florida attorney general to bring cases against tech companies that violate these conditions under the state’s Unfair and Deceptive Practices Act.

"What began as a group of upstart companies from the west coast has since transformed into an industry of monopoly communications platforms that monitor, influence, and control the flow of information in our country and among our citizens, and they do this to an extent hitherto unimaginable," said DeSantis, adding "These platforms have changed from neutral platforms that provided Americans with the freedom to speak to enforcers of preferred narratives. Consequently, these platforms have played an increasingly decisive role in elections, and have negatively impacted Americans who dissent from orthodoxies favored by the Big Tech cartel."

Watch:

Some 250 million Americans, or around 4 out of every 5 people, have social media accounts.

Other Florida conservatives weighed in on Tuesday's announcement.

"Florida is taking back the virtual public square as a place where information and ideas can flow freely. We’re demanding transparency from the big tech giants," said State House Speaker Chris Sprowls in a statement.

"The big tech companies have the duty to allow differing views on their public platforms. No one should be excluded. But let’s be clear: They are targeting conservatives," said Senate President Wilton Simpson according to local10, adding that it amounts to political censorship.

Biden Team Will Test Shipping Covid Vaccines Direct to Pharmacies

Yet another snowstorm is headed for Wisconsin; 2 to 8 inches possible depending where you live; bitter cold to follow

From JSOnline:
Joe Taschler
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

More snow appears headed for Wisconsin this week as yet another winter storm approaches the state.

Once the storm moves through, bitter cold arctic air will sweep across Wisconsin for the upcoming weekend, forecasters say.

Snow could begin falling Wednesday night in northern and central Wisconsin, with snow falling Thursday across much of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Thursday afternoon, according to the weather service.

This storm will differ from the past two that have dumped more snow on southern Wisconsin than it has seen in more than a decade.

Higher snowfall totals are expected north and west of Milwaukee, "and that's different from the last two (storms,)" said Marcia Cronce, a weather service meteorologist in Sullivan.

"It just has a different look than we saw with the last two systems," Cronce said. "It's going to be really heavy, wet snow, or a rain snow mix/wintry mix early on and then it will change over to all snow as the system moves to our east."

Groundhog Day: Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow. It's six more weeks of winter

From JSOnline:
Anthony DiMattia
York Daily Record

Not even the COVID-19 pandemic, nor snow, could keep Punxsutawney Phil from getting his job done on Groundhog Day on Tuesday.

The great weather-predicting groundhog could not be stopped, forecasting six more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow during the annual spectacle at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Over the 135 year-tradition, it is the 106th time Phil has seen his shadow.

While the event usually draws thousands to the borough in Jefferson County northeast of Pittsburgh, this year's festivities were all virtual.

The exception: About a dozen members of Phil's "Inner Circle," a group of men in top hats who organize the event each year. Some cardboard cutouts of some previous attendees were placed around the tiny hill just outside Punxsutawney.

Former Grafton pharmacist who sabotaged COVID-19 vaccines is a flat-Earther

From JSOnline:

FBI documents show the Grafton pharmacist who was charged with trying to destroy COVID-19 vaccines is a flat-Earther.

Steven Brandenburg, 46, worked the third shift at Aurora Health in Grafton on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 when he left vials of the Moderna vaccine out of the refrigerator, which he knew would ruin the doses.

A search warrant shows that Brandenburg, who faces federal charges, believed the Earth was flat along with other theories.

He was a licensed pharmacist since 1997, but the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board suspended his license in January when he was accused of ruining more than 500 doses of the vaccine.
