Tavern lobby asks lawmakers to allow bars to deliver alcohol to homes during coronavirus shutdown

From JSOnline:

, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

MADISON - One of the state's most powerful lobbying groups is asking lawmakers to allow bars and restaurants to deliver alcohol to people staying in their homes under Gov. Tony Evers order to stay inside.
It's one of a dozen requests the Tavern League of Wisconsin is putting to lawmakers as they draft relief packages with Evers for the state suffering economic losses as the coronavirus outbreak forces people to stay put and closes scores of businesses.
"Taverns and restaurants in Wisconsin will have been closed to regular business for 38 days after the current Executive Order expires," Tavern League President Chris Marsicano, who owns The Village Supper Club in Delavan, said in a Tuesday letter to lawmakers. "Without the additional help of state government the hospitality industry will suffer significant permanent loss."

"One of the state's most powerful lobbying groups . . ."  You know the Tavern League.  They're the guys who keep lobbying the state legislature to NOT increase the penalties for drunk driving in Wisconsin.  Their primary product is a corrosive, addictive substance that destroys families and lives.  As they kill people, they claim to be in the "hospitality industry."  In reality, they are in the alcoholism industry.  Party on, Tavern League!

Racine checking early-voters' temperatures, taking other safety precautions

From CBS 58:

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The City of Racine is encouraging all voters to vote absentee.

Registered Racine voters can vote absentee through the mail, but if they want to do it in person they can vote at City Hall, where the city is taking several steps to ensure voter health and safety.

Early voters are being greeted by health care workers who will take the voters’ temperature and ask them about symptoms before allowing them inside to vote.

The Mayor of Racine says if they determine the voter has a fever or symptom, the resident can still vote curbside from their car.

“It’s just an extra level of protection that our public health administrator thought would help make sure that we’re not admitting people in City Hall that might have symptoms already,” Mayor Cory Mason said.

Racine City Clerk Tara Coolidge says all of Racine’s city employees are also checking their temperature daily.

If admitted inside to vote, squares on the floor are used for social distancing and the City Clerk says they also have a full-time cleaning staff making their rounds of the building.

City Hall is open for in person, early absentee voting weekdays until Friday, April 3 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday April 4 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The biggest election challenge Mayor Mason says the city is facing is getting people to work the polls on April 7.

The mayor says at minimum they need 135 people to run an election and right now the City Clerk says they still need about 60-75 more people.

Workers will get $135 for the day.

To be a poll worker in Racine you must live in the county. Lunch and dinner are provided. The city is encouraging high school students over the age of 16, college students, teachers, and bartenders and services workers out of work to apply.

Applications can be found here. You can also email clerks@cityofracine.org or call/text 262-822-9692 and let them know you are interested in applying.

Wild goats take over empty streets of Welsh town as residents stay inside

A herd of wild goats has taken over the deserted streets of a seaside town of Llandudno, Wales, as citizens remain in their homes to help stop the spread of coronavirus. The goats have been spotted in the town center, in front of churches and even nibbling on hedges in front lawns.
The animals are part of a wild herd of more than 100 Kashmiri goats that live around the nearby Great Orme headland, BBC News reported. The headland is a huge 679-foot piece of limestone that extends out from the surrounding sea, according to the Great Orme Country Park's tourism site.
Typically the herd ventures into the Welsh town of Llandudno when inclement weather hits, according to the BBC. But the animals have recently been spotted wandering the town more frequently.
The creatures have been providing plenty of entertainment for people in the town, with videos and photos of the bold goats popping up social media.
"Well we have NO GUESTS, and the GREAT ORME GOATS expect to stay and eat for free!" the Lansdowne House, a local hotel, wrote on Instagram on Monday. "Least they use the parking white lines to respect 2m Social Distancing!"

"I, for one, welcome our new goat overlords,"  tweeted Andrew Stuart, who works for the Manchester Evening News. Stuart has been posting regular updates about the goats since last week.
"They're scared of me (a human) in this. They don't like people," Stuart tweeted alongside video of the goats running from him. "They usually only come down from the Great Orme when it's windy, and only the back streets at the top of Mostyn Street. Now lockdown means it's empty, they're going further than ever."
Town Councillor Carol Marubbi told BBC News she also believes the herd has come into the town due to the lack of people out and about.
"There are very few visitors on the top [of the Orme], so they have come down in their droves," she said, according to the BBC. "There isn't anyone else around so they probably decided they may as well take over."
She said the town is "very proud" of the goats and that their antics have been "free entertainment" to citizens as they remain inside.
The United Kingdom's Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus, ordered a nationwide lockdown last week. All businesses, other than "essential" ones, were instructed to close and citizens are now only permitted to leave their residences to get essential supplies and exercise once per day.
Authorities have permission to fine people if they violate the rules and the power to split up gatherings over two people. The measures came following weeks of criticism that Johnson's government did not act quickly enough to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
There are more than 25,400 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United Kingdom and over 1,700 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. More than 170 people have recovered.

Don't Nag Your Husband During Lockdown, Malaysia's Government Advises Women

In this online poster, now removed, Malaysia's Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development advised women working at home to wear makeup and office clothes so as not to offend their husbands.

Malaysia has the largest number of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia with more than 2,900 and counting. This week, Malaysia's government also had a serious public relations issue after an ill-conceived plan went online.
Malaysia's Ministry for Women, Family and Community Development issued a series of online posters on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #WomenPreventCOVID19. It advised the nation's women to help with the country's partial lockdown by not nagging their husbands.
The ministry also advised women to refrain from being "sarcastic" if they asked for help with household chores. And it urged women working from home to dress up and wear makeup.
"(It) is extremely condescending both to women and men," Nisha Sabanayagam, a manager at the advocacy group All Women's Action Society, told Reuters. "These posters promote the concept of gender inequality and perpetuate the concept of patriarchy."
The posters drew swift ridicule online.

Dear Madame Zoltar

Hello, my dears!  How are you?  Have you been staying home?  Has it driven you nuts yet?  If I have to listen to much more of Junior's complaining, I think I'll go mad.  Señor Zanza has always done well with Junior, but now even he has had enough.  Señor Zanza has laid down the law with Junior.  Kind of a "no contact" order.  We all live in the same house, so it can be difficult to avoid each other.  Señor Zanza just doesn't want to spend time with Junior anymore.  I can understand why.

All that Junior does anymore is babble about the coronavirus and how unfair it is that he's confined to the house.  Obviously, we have online access, but he's not doing any school work.  I don't know what to do about him.  Maybe if I ignore him, he'll go away.  No, that's not nice.  But I can't listen to much more of his ranting and raving.

I can't listen to much more coronavirus news in general.  You can't read a newspaper or watch a news program on TV without mention of the virus.  Online news is the same.  It's horrid.  Thank God for the kindness and understanding of Señor Zanza.  I'm worried about losing clients because I can't spend time close to them, holding their hands.  Señor Zanza soothes my anxiety and always makes me feel better.

As of this writing, Racine is dong quite well during the outbreak.  Stay at home and social distancing seem to be working.  Just wait until the election.  That ought to mess things up good.  Already, numerous polling sites have had to close down because of a lack of poll workers.  Oh my!  ( Milwaukee normally has 180 voting sites; because of coronavirus, fewer than 12 polling places will be open April 7 )  That will just force more and more voters to wait in line to vote at the open polls. This election could be outright murderous in its spread of the new virus. People congregating in line. Voting "booths" reused by voter after voter.

Speaking of the election, I want to tell you that I voted by mail and I voted against the Unified referendum. One billion dollars with no guarantee of taxes not going up is absurd. Unified already throws away its money like a drunken sailor. I keep getting these glossy flyers in the mail pimping the referendum. It costs a lot to print and mail those things. So here we have Unified using our money in an effort to get us to give them more of our money. They're hustlers, pure and simple. Student populations are projected to drop in the coming years. Then why does Unified need so much money? Whose yacht are we financing?

Have you had trouble finding toilet paper?  me, too.  Our houses is an older home and we have to be careful of the plumbing.  We can't flush anything other than toilet paper and/or poop and/or puke.  I'm grateful that I always keep a large supply of household items on hand.  TP is something that I stock up on, along with paper towels and facial tissues.  So, we're in good shape.

On the subject of toilet paper, have you seen this commercial?

That little bear is singing about his "hiney" being clean.  How disgusting!  Gag me with a spoon!

Well, that's it for this week, my dears.  I love you all and thank you for reading my blog.  I wish I could kiss each and every one of you, but that would break social distancing rules.  Ah, well.

'I don't think you really can' make the election safe: Wisconsin gears up for next primary amid coronavirus

Wisconsin, one of the pivotal midwestern states for the 2020 general election, is also currently set to be the first state to restart the primary process next week amid the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
With more than a dozen states backloading the election calendar due to the novel coronavirus, the Badger State stands as an outlier, instead determined to forge ahead with their presidential nominating contest on April 7.
"Nothing has changed from my vantage point. We have several lawsuits occurring right now and so it's part of state law," Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said on Monday at a press conference on the outbreak, referring to five major lawsuits filed over the election across the state according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "It's in state law. The date is set and we're encouraging lots of people to vote absentee and online...and people are responding to that."
The decision to stay put is in part because more than just the presidential candidates are on the ballot for the upcoming spring election, which is a primary only at the presidential level and a general election for the state Supreme Court races and other local elections.
The upcoming contest also injects some sense of normalcy back into a primary season that was ground to a halt by the coronavirus.

Man taken into custody in Racine County for OWI, loaded gun found in car

From CBS 58:

TOWN OF BURLINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Lake Geneva man was taken into custody on Monday, March 30 after failing a field sobriety test.

The Racine Sheriff's Department says deputies were called to the area near Fish Hatchery Road and Clarance Street in the Town of Burlington around 11:20 p.m. Authorities say a person called 911 complaining of a man in her backyard. The man told the person he was looking for his friend's house.

Authorities later found a car connected to the suspicious person and talked to the man. The sheriff's department said the man appeared to be impaired and then failed a field sobriety test. While searching his car, drug paraphernalia and a loaded handgun were found.

The man was taken to jail on several charges including OWI 1st offense and armed while impaired.
