A very Different lawsuit

In keeping with our Irregular tradition comes a lawsuit out of New York. It seems this guy is suing Columbia University because their Women's Studies demonizes men. The article itself is an interesting read, but you've got to go through the comments. They're too funny.

My favorite was: "Women's studies? They teach cleaning and ironing at Columbia?"

Now girls, don't get in a twist and start pulling my feathers out.......

Can we start by plucking the shortest most sensitive feathers?

Ladies night was founded on the fact that if they could draw women into their establishments, more men would come. Simple supply and demand. Don't blame the women for that one. Men have always been the suitors and women the suitees (is that a word?)

Women have gotten the short end of the stick for a long time and unfortunately, still do. There are plenty of women who work as hard or harder doing the same jobs for much less pay and are being passed over for promotions.

When it becomes necessary to pass legislation to get equality, sometimes the pendulum has to swing too far the other direction first before it can right itself.

KK,

I think all your points are well taken, but I understand his angst.

Many of these courses are just man bashing, and that serves no one. If there is no problem bashing one segment of society, then, sooner or later, it becomes ok to bash another segment.

"Men" do this and "Men" did that, is far too wide a net to throw. All it does is promote victimization, IMHO.

I can site a real life example of this attitude gone awry.

I was walking into a large office building in Manhattan one morning. The air pressure in this building was wierd. You had to really pull on the doors to get them open.

A young women was coming up the steps behind me so I pulled the door opened and stepped aside so she could enter. She said, and I quote: "I am perfectly capable of opening my own door, thank you."

Ok, I thought and "How rude" was my second thought. I stepped inside and let the door close. As I stood in front of the guard's desk, I watched her yank and pull on that door to no avail.

Finally, I pushed the door open for her. I couldn't resist saying "It was a courtesy, thats all. If you can't accept courtesy from a stranger, then you're going to have a tough life ahead of you. She mumbled a "Thank you" and went on her way.

I believe many of these courses, especially in very liberal places like Columbia, are defeminizing.

Can't women be independant and feminine at the same time?

Yes, I agree that this guy has a problem and some of these classes have gone too far. I also agree that stereotyping any part of society is wrong. Men bashing is so fun though, are you really going to make me admit that it is wrong? ;>

I would have said thank you for the door. I've also had men that wouldn't allow me to hold a door I had already opened for them too. And yes, women who get it right can be both independent and feminine.

Wow! He doesn't want to reveal his age so he can pick up younger women.

You know that real men can be masculine without being an asshole at the same time :)

Yeah, HB, that was a real dumb comment on his part. Makes him seem more than a bit narcissistic.

KK, I know man bashing is a girl's favorite pastime. Far be it for me to tell you to stop. lol
