I plan to not shop at the Pig anymore. WAY too much food has best used by dates that are months old. Sad day though as it was close, convinient, and affordable. Even Aldies has fresher foods. Sentry and Pick and Save are about equal distance, but I stopped using P&S when they refused tor refund a pack of country ribs I found a broken hypo needle in. (yes the breeder must have broke it off and the meat ot sold to me.)
I also boycot walmart, so even if they have fresh food, they wont get my money. Looks like I pay to eat and shop at Sentry.

Which P&S was it that refused to refund your money, Huck? I am curious. When I am in Sturtevant, I normally go to either the P&S across from Regency or the one on Spring.
I think the pig stores are all independently owned now. Used to be owned by Schultz-Sav-O Company. Which store did you notice it at? Did you report the out of date food? Sounds like shoddy management... I think I may know which manager and store you are talking about. The stockers are supposed to check dates and rotate and remove post dated stock.
There was a big 'to do' in Milwaukee this past year about a store that was selling post date food. It was all over the news reports. I would think that the stores would be more careful as to not become newsworthy.
Some items expiration dates aren't a big deal, like most canned foods. If the can is intact and it isn't years old... should be ok. Other, more volitle things? You don't want to be a part of eating that old stuff!
Huck, I was wondering which Pig and which P&S's there were, I will happily boycott those particular ones and keep a better eye out for dates. I guess I take for granted that things are in date, I won't make that trusting mistake again! Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more info,thanks :)

I've been there before and ogt a gallon of milk that was due to expire in 9 days, broght it home and it tasted spoiled. Gross!!!!! I never liked to shop there. They are too expensive. I think I would have called Contact 6 about the hypo needle though. If it was me and they refused to refund my money and take the crap back... I'd be writting from jail!!!
I shop at Piggly Wiggly's on Erie. No problems there.

I never look at the 'use by' dates on things I buy. Except for milk. I shop at Pick and Save across from the mall and they are so nice to me. I took some cottage cheese back (called 1st and they said dump it and bring back empty carton) and I had no problem. I did read where there was a big 'to-do' about meat using the sold by date a while ago. Maybe I should pay more attention. Thanks for the info, tho. Again...Happy Holidays!!!

Like Drew, I shopped at the Pig on Erie/Three Mile when I was there...seemed okay and didn't have any problems...especially if you go later in the evening when there are no crowds!
I too shop the pig on Erie. Hale just be careful going there at night i had a friend that got robbed of her groceries as she was putting them in her trunk. They took the food and her purse.It was last year but still watch it over there.
A little penicillin never hurt anyone, but those needles are a little tough to digest. I believe I would have gone ballistic on that if they would not refund my money.
The only thing I generally check is dairy products. Like KK mentioned, canned food, that stuff is good for a long time.
“Shelf life”...that is a real joke on many thing. As an example, you purchase a vacuum cleaner with a 10 year warrantee, but the gear they put in the bearings is only (by shelf life) good for one year. They do if for manufacturing purposes, to rotate stock, first in first out.
One thing for sure, you won’t have to worry about expiration in Wisconsin dates on wine and beer...ain’t that right ABBY?
I've never really had a problem at either the Pig on Spring or P&S on Spring/31. Although... the best Pigs I've been to is in Kenosha near Parkside. Nice looking store and I've never noticed anything out of date there.

Abby, I live in Tucson now...and Racine has nothing on us in terms of crime! My physical build has been described as "linebacker" so I tend not to have to much trouble :)

Mom shops at the Pig on Erie, so I do, too. No problems with the food there except mom once found a piece of plastic in a muffin from their bakery. They explained that they receive the batter in bulk and just schmooze it into the pans. No damage done.
For a long time, I shopped at the old Randall's County Market. That place was a hoot at night.
