The good, the bad and the ugly..And Im not talking about Clint Eastwood - UPDATE

A company called Fisker automotive got a loan from the Obama administration for building electric cars. You can see them here.
Contray to what our resident liberals think, I dont have a problem with the electric cars. Those are the good. The bad is that the loan was $529 million! The ugly is the cars that are being financed with our tax dollars cost $89,700. Why is the White House subsidizing cars that only Hollywood and the uber rich will ever consider owning?

UPDATE: According to the WSJ this car company is backed by Mr Green hot air himself, Al Gore.

Because we are stupid enough to let it happen OR most of us have a conscience and just cannot screw our fellow Americans

Good question. This has nothing to do with being a republican or democrat. Will funding this project somehow help the auto industry advance technology for all future electric cars? Maybe there is more to this than meets the eye? Simply funding for the rich or for auto industry profits would be against anyone's agenda... at least I would hope!

And by the way... sweet ride. I'd love one!

Actually the money was given in the fall of 08. From Wikipedia, its the Advanced Technologies Vehicle Manufacturers Loan Program. The funding of projects that help vehicles made in America meet higher mileage standards.
Now they are trying to develop the 2nd generation $39,000 sedan.
Still too high for me but any program that will reduce our dependency for foreign oil (in my opinion) is a good thing.

Actually, the loan was just announced, and the program was created in August. Mary, would that also mean you support drilling for American Oil? That would reduce our dependence for foreign oil. Another question. If this car is such a good idea (Im not saying it isnt) then why is the government involved when they already own a car company. Couldnt they invest in the Chevy Volt, made by Government Motors? Where are the private investors in the Fisker car?

Loans get paid back. Better a loan than a grant

At a temperature of 20 degrees C or 68 degrees Fahrenheit, a (U.S.) gallon of vehicular gasoline weighs about 6.15 pounds at that temperature. Diesel weighs about 7.1 pounds per gallon.

If we take 6.15lbs X 20gal that comes to 123lbs. NOW if they could make a battery around 125 pounds and a drive train that would power a vehicle with 4 people in it 600 to 650 miles they would have something.

And have it look as cool as this one...damn I would want one also.

I would guess If only TEN cars were made they would cost LOTS. Should the car be a hit and be produced in LARGE numbers, would not the price go down?

Example.

I'm gonna start an insurance company. The first subscriber is going to have to pay a premium of 2 MILLION dollars a year. A short time later I have 2 MILLION subscribers. NOW the premium is only $240.00 a year. POWER IN NUMBERS. Obviously not a real situation noted, but the theory is correct.

A GOOD LAUGH: Anyone here ever heard of "Bromo Seltzer"? WELL good luck finding it. Should you find it you would be LUCKY. It has SUCH poor sales now, that it is unavailable ANYWHERE near me?

toad...you can buy it online. I couldn't find any around here.

SER: How many are available? Are they made to order?

What the heck. A crummy Chevy truck can cost you over 50 grand.

Also $529 million is about $1.75 for each American. Cigarettes, Some Bottled Water, Etc. Etc. Etc. cost more than that. Matter of fact. I just discovered TV Guide is now $3.95 PER issue.

Do a "WIKI" on the company Fisker Automotive, and you will understand how this company will PROBABLY succeed.
